FBI seeking special agent candidates2002-01-25As a result of the FBI's realignment after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the bureau is seeking qualified, competitive candidates for the 900 special agents it plans to hire before October. Special agent applications The adjustment is designed to enhance the FBI's ability to better address terrorism and homeland security, the bureau said in a statement this week. Applicants can have one of a variety of backgrounds including computer science or information technology, engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, military intelligence, aviation, foreign counterintelligence, explosives and foreign language. The agency is especially interested in those with the knowledge of Arabic, all dialects of Chinese, Farsi, Pashtu, Urdu, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Russian and Vietnamese. Upon completion of the 16-week training, special agents will earn a salary of more than $50,000. To qualify for training, applicants must be a U.S. citizen 23 to 36 years old and be available for assignment anywhere in the United States. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and be in excellent physical condition. Candidates also must have graduated from a four-year accredited college or university and have at least three years of full-time work experience.
