Washington-AP -- Women are now more likely than men to rank national defense a top priority -- with experts suggesting the change is the latest fall-out from the September terror attacks. The Pew Research Center for the People and the Press says its survey finds 57 percent of women rate national security a top concern, compared with 46 percent of men surveyed. Last year, only 42 percent of women were as worried about national defense, compared with 53 percent of men.A 52-year-old Alabama woman says it seems the nation let down its guard, and she's second-guessing now that the country is not prepared.Men have traditionally been more hawkish on defense than women. Since the terror attacks, women are less likely to see the issue in terms of armaments or going to war. Instead, they link it to homeland security.
