Pentagon-AP -- The Pentagon reportedly is thinking about setting up a new homeland defense command.Senior officials quoted by The Washington Post say the top brass are in agreement and will present the recommendation to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld next month. The new command would be headed by a four-star general or admiral.U-S law sharply curtails use of the military for domestic purposes, but the September attacks changed all that. Air Force jets now routinely patrol the skies over cities. National Guard troops are standing watch at airports. And troops are even providing security on Capitol Hill.A spokesman for the American Civil Liberties Union says there's no objection in principle, but the group wants to make sure the military doesn't take the place of civilian law enforcement.
