Olathe, Kansas-AP) -- A suburban Kansas City man accused of being a sexual predator will have his trial delayed -- so that he can be castrated.Herbert Fox's trial -- scheduled to start Monday -- will be delayed until after his surgery, scheduled for the 25th of this month.His lawyer says some of Fox's friends have set up a trust fund to pay for the procedure.According to court records, he has been convicted of committing sex crimes against children in 1974, 1981 and 1990.He was living in Shawnee at the time of his latest conviction for sodomizing two boys, ages seven and eleven.He was scheduled for release in October 2000, but prosecutors filed charges to keep him in prison as a sexual predator.He hopes to be released after the operation.

    Is this the guy that WANTS to be castrated so he can get out? What's always bothered me is that assuming sickness remains in the head of the molester, it would still be possible to molest in a variety of ways, including foreign objects. While this whole castration idea may have "eye for an eye" going for it, I'm not sure it goes far enough to stop further predation. I'd say (despite any hormonal changes) that a castrated rapist in the neighborhood could be nearly as dangerous as the regular kind.
