I've been looking at the S&W 1250. I don't want a "stileto". Any thoughts? Thanks, Bryan.

Saw a movie once - Sword and the Sorcerer, I think was the title. Good guy had a 3 bladed sword that launched the two outside blades and even had a dagger in the handle, cool but way to big and heavy.Never had an auto knife so I can't say on that one. I do have a buck one handed opener that it like snot on a doorknob to open one handed.[This message has been edited by twins (edited 09-17-2001).]

I thought about getting a balisong, but figured I would just cut off a finger or something learning how to use it so I'm going for the auto.I bid on a new age KaBar here yesterday, but I'd like a nice folder too.

I had a butterfly knife, got pretty good too, then my brother took it and kept it. Once you cut your fingers a few times, you learn not to do that anymore. They are for show anyway, get a good KBar, lost one of those too, a schrade, etc.. I've lost or lent and never got back more than I have now.

I carry a Benchmade Mini-Reflex. Easily carried and it's all the blade I need. The S&W marked autos I've examined appear to actually be Benchmade knives, though for some reason they usually sell for less. They have a website at www.benchmade.com

The Balisong Chant,"Throw the Latch!!!!!!!"Start out with the Punyo against your palm with your fingers resting on the Puluhan(The Handle with the Latch). Move your hand forward in an arch and release the Puluhan while maintaining your grip on the Punyo. The Puluhan should flip over your hand and hit your knuckles (You get used to it). Holding the Punyo loosely, swing the Puluhan to the left or right 180 degrees, so that the back of the blade is resting against your knuckles. With a backward motion swing the Puluhan towards you and catch it with your fingers. It takes a little practice but after a while you can open the knife in less than a second.Monkey

Being in the Fire/EMS field I also was looking to purchase a auto knife. I am under the impression that if you are not in Law Enforcement or the Emergency services you may have difficulty purchasing/owning one legally.

If you are really interested in an auto knife, stay away from the front-openers. Every one I have ever owned has worn out, and the blades had a tendency to disappear back into the handle at unnecessary times. Go with a sturdy side-opener, such as Benchmade, Boker, or Kershaw. Kershaw makes a nice knife which isn't quite an auto, but is spring loaded and opens quite quickly and easily. I personally carry a Benchmade for tough work and a Victorinox Swiss Champ (in the belt pouch) for just about everything else. Neither of these is an auto or spring loaded, and they work just fine.

http://www.bladeauction.com/osauction.shtml I ahve some small knives like the 1250 but a tad bigger. The blades on these knives are like razor blades and are sold with a heavy warning. a4ld@yahoo.com[This message has been edited by alledan (edited 09-18-2001).]
