AAADD

They have finally found a diagnosis for my condition. Hooray!! I have recently been diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D.!

Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.

This is how it goes:

I decide to wash the car. I start toward the garage and I notice the mail on the table. Ok, I'm going to wash the car, but first I'm going to go through the mail.

I lay the car keys down on the desk, discard the junk mail and I notice the trash can is full. Ok, I'll just put the bills on my desk and take the trash can out. But since I'm going to be near the mailbox anyway, I'll pay these few bills first.

Now, where is my checkbook? Oops, there's only one check left. My extra checks are in my desk. Oh, there's the coke I was drinking. I'm going to look for those checks. But first I need to put my coke further away from the computer. Oh, maybe I'll pop it into the fridge to keep it cold for a while.

I head towards the kitchen and my flowers catch my eye; they need some water. I set the coke on the counter and uh oh! There are my glasses. I was looking for them all morning! I'd better put them away first.

I fill a container with water and head for the flower pots -- Aaaaaagh! Someone left the TV remote in the kitchen. We'll never think to look in the kitchen tonight when we want to watch television so I'd better put it back in the family room where it belongs.

I splash some water into the pots and onto the floor, I throw the remote onto a soft cushion on the sofa and I head back down the hall trying to figure out what it was I was going to do?

End of Day:

The car isn't washed, the bills are unpaid, the coke is sitting on the kitchen counter, the flowers are half watered, the checkbook still only has one check in it and I can't seem to find my car keys! When I try to figure out how come nothing got done today, I'm baffled because I KNOW I WAS BUSY ALL DAY LONG!!!

I realise this is a serious condition and I'll get help, BUT FIRST I think I'll check my e-mail...

Please send this to everyone you know because I DON'T REMEMBER TO WHOM I'VE SENT THIS!!!

Nunn: Are you serious about this? I've known for years that I had some variety of ADD but did nothing about it. That's really another symptom of the affliction; procrastination. I read everything I could find on the subject and was able to trace this problem clear back to grade school but still I did nothing. I finally talked to a shrink last February, and after trying a couple of different medications, I'm a new man. I can't believe I lived with this for all these years when fixing it is as easy as just taking a pill every morning.

My post is a good-natured jab at me and others who are getting older and more forgetful.

If there is a medicine that will take care of forgetfulness, I would like some.

Ah, those "senior moments". Curse or boon? Are they real?

I'm not laughing, just thanking my ex-wife, and my new wife of 9 months (after being single for almost 16 years)for putting up with me.

ADD, ADHD, now the term of AAADD really exists, and it's alot more than just those 'forgetful moments'.

Meds such as Ritalin(methylphenidate), Adderall, Dexidrine, and more can really help the brains cognative thought processes.

Been there, done that. Discovered my ADHD almost 20 years after my son was diagnosed with it. We thought his 168 IQ was his problem. False medical theory was that we outgrew it. Bull crap!!!!! We just learned to change our lifestyles, or fall into repeatative patterns that are often self destructive, or at least counterproductive.

Sadly, many doctors who 'treat' ADD'ers simply punch the insurance clock. They have no real feeling, and understanding of the internal issues. Sadly, most do not have good "lifestyle coaches' (therapists) to help.

I fired both my doctors. But, thats' a whole differnt chapter.

Scary things are that after a you get a good correct med, and med program for, it does take a while to find what works, you will now see #1 daily life, more specifically,...TIME in a whole new light.
You will also begin see the past, and how TIME was wasted, and life was really messed up by the brains chemical imbalance. Tough to handle, especially when you "see" the negative influence on family ,and loved ones.
#2 how much work, and how hard it is to literally just begin to change your lifestyle, and correct coping mechanisms.

Scary AND exciting. To learn, and change. But oh, so rewarding to see, and feel a new better life.

Embrace all of it. It is a part of who, and what we are. Don't let it go, but hold it close, maintain control. It is all about taking control.

    Happy Bullet Holes!

nunn, that is somewhat funny in the context in which it was offered, but like Lowrider, I suffer from Adult ADD, and in some ways it hurts to be teased about it.
