CA: GOA candidate

edited February 2004 in General Discussion
poll released on Thursday shows the campaign of Rico Oller, a
California State Senator running for an open congressional seat,
with a growing lead over his two rivals.

The three candidates are locked in a fierce battle leading up to the
March 2nd primary in California's 3rd Congressional District.

Sen. Oller is a champion of gun owners' rights, and he is an avid
sportsman and hunter himself. He is also "A" rated by Gun Owners of
America, based on his voting record, his leadership on the gun
issue, and his answers to the GOA Questionnaire.

The other candidates, former Rep. Dan Lungren and political neophyte
Mary Ose, steadfastly refuse to answer the survey. Not
surprisingly, the two would like to conceal their anti-gun positions
from voters.

As a congressman over two decades ago, Dan Lungren was one of only
40 Republicans to vote for the original Brady bill, which at that
time contained a 7-day waiting period on handgun purchases. He also
co-hosted a 1992 fundraiser for Jim Brady and the Center to Prevent
Handgun Violence.

Most significantly, as California's Attorney General in the early
1990s, Lungren single-handedly laid the groundwork for a gun
registration and confiscation scheme. [See
http://www.gunowners.org/a011304.htm for a more detailed account of
Lungren's attack against gun owners.]

Mary Ose is, plain and simply, trying to buy a seat in Congress.
"I'll spend whatever it takes," she said.

Though she has no record on which to run, Ose has been endorsed by
the Republican Main Street Partnership, a group consisting mostly of
left-leaning anti-gun Republicans.

It is no surprise, therefore, that the recent poll shows that "Rico
is the choice of conservative voters who dominate the Republican
primaries," especially among gun rights supporters.

The poll, conducted by Public Opinion Strategies, shows Sen. Oller
with 32% to Ose's 22% and Lungren's 19%.

Though Sen. Oller is in the lead, this race is far from over. The
other candidates are pouring tons of money into the race for last
minute media buys.

It is vitally important for gun owners from across the country to
get involved in this race now. Even if you do not live in this
district, Rico Oller will be fighting for your gun rights in the
U.S. Congress.

So please, if you have not yet contributed to the Oller for Congress
campaign, I urge you to do so today.

Your contribution of $25, $35, $50, $100, or even $2,000 (the legal
maximum) will ensure that Sen. Oller has the resources to compete
with the anti-gun forces in the last days of this campaign.

To contribute online, go to http://www.ricooller.com/contribute.html
and make as generous a contribution as you can.
