Laguna Beach, California-AP -- A Vietnam War memorial in Southern California recognizes Americans and South Vietnamese who died in the war.

The 12-foot bronze sculpture depicts an American soldier and a South Vietnamese soldier. It was erected in Westminster, the largest Vietnamese community outside of Vietnam.

The sculptor escaped Vietnam by walking through the jungles of Cambodia. He says he wanted people to think that the soldiers could be their son or brother or neighbor who fought in the war.

The memorial was privately funded, mostly by small donations from the local Vietnamese community.
