Do you think a .45 Tactical would be good?

My 16 year old brother wants the gun I want now, a H&K .45 Tactical. The reason for this is last week when I was at the shooting range I asked the owner what hand gun would be good for 16 year old, thats close to a beginer. He said that lots of people start off with a small caliber and work there way up, but he said that wastes alot of money on upgrading your gun, and ammo. So he suggested getting him a .45 so he wouldnt have to work his way up, and when he first shot the .45 he would know that that is one of the strongest recoils and if he got use to a .45 right off that bat, that he could handle just about any other hand gun. Do you think this is good advice, and my dad should consider letting him "own" a H&K .45 Tactical?

In my view it is not good advise. I would start him with a .22 revolver or perhaps a .22 semi auto.

For what's it's worth, I generally start anyone whom I am introducing pistolcraft to on a .38 SPCL (MOD 10 S&W currently-THANKS NUNN!)or if they have any measure of trepidation I hand them my Colt Woodsman. It is never a "waste" to start small and work up, you always are looking foward to the next caliber and/or gun.

Gene B. I agree with Matt45. Coincidentally, I have a S&W 10-6 that I will trade (even) for a H&K .45 Tactical. So tell your dad to go ahead and buy the gun...we'll make the trade, and everyone will be happy.

I started with a 9mm. Eventually moved to 1911 type handguns. Love them. I have a Tactical. Not the most comfortable grip in the world and definitely requires a lot more training than a good ole wheel gun.
