    Tony
When is GM going to make the Tahoe's more fuel efficient?
I really like them, but, can't live with 14-17 mpg. I do about 40,000 miles a year and with that mileage I'd be pushing $8,000/yr just for gas.
Hope all is well with the family.

You always seem quick to someones aid,was hoping you could answer a question.By the way those are some sweet looking AR's you've got there!I've heard and read that on ar's like mineColt CAR 3 cr6724 Elite that guns with stainless barrels are best broken in with a fire/cleaning schedule.Like shoot 1,clean,shoot 2 rounds, clean, this up to 5,then do that 5 times, something like that up to around 50 rounds.Any thoughts?I've got maybe two more months till I can shoot it,I've got time.

Thanks for replying in the SL8 thread at 'Ask the Experts'. I go to shoot (iron sights) an SL8 a few weeks back. It is an accurate gun (and loud). I am considering a purchase. Can you give me any information on what you scoped it with? HK product? Other? If other, did you mount to the rail?

Where can I get the black folder plastic for my SL8 like your pic in Mateos "I went a little nuts" thread? I have an SL8 with the PC grey factory stock I wouldn't mind making the conversion on.

Just to satisfy my curiosity I went through the members list to see who and when the oldest recorded member was.

You are with a 8/29/1999 date.

So congrats to you Sir, for whatever it is worth.[:)] Can you apprise us youngsters what things were like when you were the only member on this forum? Who the heck did you talk to? What was it like? Imagine this forum with but one member.

There were 2 other members with dates just 2 days later...Aglore and Captkirk3@dslextreme.com. What a triad.[:D] Ya'll could really whoop it up then.

Darin,I put a Springfield 4-14X40, cammed for the 5.56 that I had bought for something else and sold, so it was just laying around and used it. To mount it I just took off the iron sights and saved them in the box and put on weaver style medium high rings, then adjusted the stock length & cheekrest to fit me ... If I had my 'druthers' I'd like a shorter scope rail for it, but I'm not loosing any sleep about it either. That is another big improvement I forgot to mention on the "Experts" thread, that the SL-8 comes with several spacers for stock length & cheekrest height, unlike earlier models where you had to pay through the nose for HK accessories or settle for inadquate aftermarket "options".As for the the SL-8 being loud, I don't think its any louder than an AR ... Oh yeah, If you get one don't run out and buy a bunch of 10 round mags for it ($40-$50 ea), Todd at Special Weapons has gotten BTAF approval to produce a replacement mag well that will accept AR-15/M-16 mags.

A magazine well adaptor? Maybe I would be interested in this rifle after all. I always wonder why any new design is not designed to accept pre-ban magazines. Perhaps the "not invented here" syndrome prevents it, but H-K could have used a polymer clone of either its 93 magazines, or, better yet, M16 magazines. There would then have been a large pool of pre-ban magazines available. How much will the adaptor be, and when will it be available? I assume the adaptor will be similar to the one I have for my Galil ARM .223, which cost me about $200 (!). What do you know about the adaptor?

The first adaptors were to have shipped from Special Weapons yesterday. I believe they are aluminum. The kit includes some replacement parts. The swap out requires some cutting on the rifle. USA made magazines only. The adaptor works according to the limitted few who have seen it. There is also a re-coloring (make it black) process available. There is also a grip and stock replacement project in the works. More information at hk54.com. Verify at the web site. I am giving this information from memory (read that as not 100% reliable).

I registered at HK-54.com, but have yet been able to post there and most the time when I go there I can't get threads to pull up ... same way on both my computers.I think the initial kits were to run about $300, included a new bolt carrier as the factory carrier is cut so that it will only pick up rounds from a single stack mag ... but I don't have all the details, Special Weapons site says go to HK-54.com for info & to sign up for the kit ... hence my delima! Why would anyone want to change the color ... the grey is cool!

Kimberkidgo to the forums or chat rooms. look in the sl8/usc conversion area. should have information there. I have not registered there yet. I am waiting to see how the pistol grip/stock conversion comes out. I see you are in Topeka. I am a little north in Lincoln. Do you travel this way? Hunt? Fish?

Its a rare occasion when I out of town, past the gun club anyway ...At HK54.com the different areas show up and I can get in the SL8/USC conversion area but the problem is the the individual threads dont show up ... no thread title, nothing to click on to open the thread.

I have had similar problems, hit and miss. I don't know what else to say, except someone needs to take better care of the board over there. I think I will wait until the pistol grip/stock conversion is ready before I purchase. I think they SL8 is a nice rifle except for the thumbhole stock. I can live with the gray color and lack of hi-cap magazines (barely). Maybe in the future, there will be more custom parts for it.
