Apparently there is going to be available post ban, semi auto only SIG 55X's. They are going to cost about 1/2 as much as a pre-ban. I have only read about the relability, accuracy, operation, etc. of these rifles. Does anyone have anything they can add? Personal experience? Model recommendation? Models available include: 550, 551, 552 with fake can to get barrel length to legal limit, and eventually 550 sniper.

According to the latest article in GWLE, these will only be imported for law enforcement purchase. That lets me out. They apparently have some things in common with the AK in terms of operation, and so should be reliable guns. They sure are purty in those shortie versions.

I bought a 550 and a 551 from SOG three months before the ban. I think I paid $1500 each. I sold them three months later for $4500 each. I fired the 550 and was not impressed; although well made, I experienced jamming with a number of different ammo selections (the worst was with SS109). I understand the new post-bans will run $4000+. I think the originals were overpriced at $1500; the AMT and PE57 are higher quality by far.

I agree that they are high priced at $4000+. I am waiting to see how large a market these rifles will comand. A lower price that would allow it to compete in the high dollar AR market, I believe, would help.
The rifles that GWLE is reviewing are LEO only. SIG only sells to departments.
The rifles being imported for civilian use are similar to the rifles reviewed by except: semi-auto only, required number of U.S. parts, no FH, no lug 16" minimum barrel (SIG 552) (the requirements for a post ban rifle)

Even though imported, I believe the original 551 did not meet overall length requirements. I assume the new 551 series will remedy that, unless it is LE only. FYI: Biggerhammer.net.

These will be U.S. civilian freindly. So the 551 will have the required barrel length. Check hk-54.com message boards for information and check SIG550.com (or SIG552.com). The SIG550 web site is selling SIG 552's exclusively. They are taking orders, but have ne shipping date. They also have posted a picture of a 552 with what they are doing to extend the barrel.
