Property access question

Hi!I was just walking my dog behind my house and discovered an abandoned NASCAR short track. By the looks of it, it hadn't been used in 15 years.Anyways, as I was snooping about the trails and woods, I jumped a nice 8 point buck.Question: what city office would I call to find out who owns the property? I just don't feel right hunting on somebody else's land without his or her permission first.Any input will be of great and valuable assistance. It could be the beer talking, but I love you guys. You can probably look at a plat book at the tax assessor's office, I usually buy one every year, and it lists all the names of property owners for the county, with maps. (hic).
