Weight Watching

How's it coming fellow dieters?
Just checking in to make sure you people stay on track (Cracks the whip).

I seemed to have stopped losing weight myself. I'm not gaining either. I've been stuck right between 220 and 225 for the past week and a half. I've actually increased my workout too. I was doing 10 minutes of jogging and 20 minutes of walking everyday (2 miles), weights every other day. I also start taking a multivitamin per previous advice. When my weight stopped decreasing I bumped up the intensity of my workouts. Still didn't change, so I started running and walking twice a day, in the mornings and evenings. I'm still staying true to my diet, so it can't be food. Is it common to stop losing weight even though you're working out just as hard as ever? I am noticing a lot more definition, so something is working. How much should an average 6ft guy weigh?

Monkey, at this point it seems that you may need to get out the tape measure. If you aren't experiencing weight loss, but are noticing definition you are building muscle which weighs more than fat. Therefore, you will see no weight reduction, but a decrease in inches. Body fat will drop and muscle mass increase. Keep it up!!

Yes its very common for that to happen... The body reaches a plateau.. and its harder than h*** to get it off. It doesnt matter to much about weight .. but more the BMI, and the fitness level.. .. you can weigh 130 and be fat.. but weigh 150 and be very fit and lean... Here are a couple of links to check the BMI, on the second link, click on BMI calculator..
    Congrats on the weight loss..

I have experience that evil plateau as well. I stayed right at the same weight for about two weeks, even with exercise and eating only 1200 calories a day. But let me tell you, it eventually starts dropping again- usually rapidly. Which can be good or bad.

Remember that muscle tissue weighs more than fat. Maybe, in addition to the "plateau effect", you are building muscle as you lose fat and, therefore, are not saeeing a difference in your weight. It is also important to remember that your change in diet and exercise should be a long-term modification to your habits - so be sure to keep your eye on the big picture. It sounds like you are doing better than I am so keep up the good work and good luck!

Munkey: You'll pass through the plateau. I was stuck for about ten days but the weight finally started dropping off again. 210 pounds this morning, down from 255 in early March. More energy, more vitality, better attitude, and many less aches and pains in the back, knees, ankles etc. It's amazing how much better you feel when you're not carrying that 50 pound backpack around everywhere you go.

According to that BMI calculator, I was very overweight the day I came out of Parris Island.

Ignore the calculators and the charts, I think long distance runners designed them.

When you start feeling good, and looking good in your eyes, you are at the right weight.

I am down from 230+ to 190, and still have 15-20 to go, now that I am in a routine it is alot easier, just keep at it and it will drop off before you know it...
