I read you response in a post concerning abortion, but given the waste of bandwidth that is the original topic poster, I didn't want to give him the attention he so obviously craves. However, your comment was one I once found myself struggling with, so I wanted to kind of share the evolution of my owns thoughts.

quote:Silent Knight, I used to be ambivalent to somewhat pro-abortion, then I realized, that any way I looked at it, an innocent child was being murdered

I found myself at odds with the same idea once; that abortion involved the killing of a child no matter how one looked at it. I simply could not understand how such a thing could be legal, much less morally acceptable. So, in order to bring a measure of understanding to my troubled mind, I began reading all I could about abortion, fetal development, and the arguments for the pro-abortion side.

In my readings I stumbled across essays from Singer and other noteable philosophers. There are some here that believe anything involving the word "philosophy" is somehow tainted with prejudice or otherwise unfit for use in a reasoned argument. Others claim that it's nothing more than a "moral sidestep" for a wrong. Those individuals have clearly already made up their minds concerning the situation, and aren't going to entertain any other ideas concerning the situations.

But I digress; the point is that my research into the development process of a fetus and the moral arguments in favor of abortion forced me to review my preconceived notions of what exactly constituted human life. In the end of my search I found myself agreeing that a human life is indeed a thing of value, which demands certain moral rights and considerations in our society; however I also found myself acknowledging that I could not in good conscience accept an idea of potentiality and declare a fetus to be an aware and sentient form of life deserving those same rights.

Maybe you'll find yourself entertaining similar arguments eventually, or maybe you already have and you find yourelf rejecting them, but as for me I can very clearly see how one could find no opposition to abortion.

As a side note; you would be surprised how many abortions, especially third-trimester abortions, take place because the fetus is either severely damaged or already in an advanced stage of tissue decay.

This is in referance to your question about the 229, $600-$625 is the going cost for a used 229, if it is two tone you can expect $25 more. The price tag is good for a 229 with 2 mags and the hardcase,I am a machinist and welder, I work with alot of machinery and I can tell you that the design of the 229's slide and action is the best mechanially sound design out there, they are virtually indestructable, it is no wonder that they are one of the only guns to pass the near impossible safety standards that california and other states have imposed on firearms, if you get one you will have a fine peice of machinery that will give you peace of mind for years to come, that is why the high resale value, hope this helps, and good luck...
