North Carolina Gun Law Experts Wanted...

I have a quick question for you Gun Law Gurus in NC. I recently bought a Pa63 and decided I would like to give it to my Father In Law, seeing as how he doesn't own any guns. Then it dawned on me that this could be considered buying a handgun for another party so I decided to sell him the gun for 1/10th of a penny. I explained how he would need to find a Gun Dealer in his area and have then send me their FFL. He called me back later and said the Gun Dealer had requested MY FFL. As far as I know I don't need an FFL to ship a handgun to an out of state dealer as long as I have a copy of their FFL. He mentioned something else rather bizaar. My father in law had to get a GUN LICENSE before he could purchase anything? Thanks for any input,Adam

Sounds about right. In NC, one has to apply to the local sheriff for a handgun permit. They do all of the necessary checks and stuff. When issued the permit, it is to acquire/buy up to two handguns within a five year period. There is no requirement to get a license to own, but there is one to carry. As far as the FFL, it may just be that the guy it is to be shipped to is covering his butt. Maybe he had a bad experience in the past and is avoiding any more trouble. Nothing against you, but CYA is a good policy to go by.

Sig, that is as long as one hand gun a month is enough. At least down here you can buy in quantity. Both states are very similar in the laws and both pretty gun friendly. I have a house in Va. and NC. You do not need an ffl to send to an ffl or manufacturer. He (your dad)will have to get a permit (most counties, there are a couple that don't). It will take 5 days and he is allowed to purchase up to 5 at one time. If he is in the central part of the state gimme a hollar, I'll get him hooked up. I'm in Raleigh, if he is around here I'll get my ffl on the job if you need or want.Andy

45min-1 hr depending on traffic. There a several good ffl's in Grnsbro. He will need a permit there. Just go down to the county Sheriff with a charcter witness, fill out the goodies and wait 5 days. They will call you when the approval comes through and then it's cash and carry (your 5 day wait is already been done). I will help if you need it. Gimme a hollar if I can help.Andy
