Cancer Cure!!!!!!!!!

Did ImClone have a "cure" for cancer?
Did it not get approved, because it WOULD work?
We have all heard stories of engine carburetors that would double or triple mileage, only to have the technology bought by the oil companies.
My wife says I'm too negative and this wouldn't happen, because nobody would put money over saving a life!!!!!!
I can't be so positive.
I've lost a father, numerous other family members and friends to this vicious disease.
I have a very close friend, who has been battling it for 5 years.
But, then I see the mega-dollars that are brought into the cities and hospitals that are known for their cancer treatment and it would be a serious blow to many cities, hospitals, doctors, nurses, etc. if a cure was found.
Hope I'm wrong!!!!!!!1

If it's in your family and you're over 40 have a colonoscopy regularly.

I find it extremely difficult, bordering on impossible, to believe that there is or will ever be "a" cure for cancer. Cancers are so many different tumors of varying etiology, some genetic, some viral, some environmental, that it is difficult to see how any one product or treatment protocal could cure them all.

The truth is there will probably never be a cure for cancer or AIDS or any of the big diseases. Too much money being made looking for the cure. If a cure were found think about how many people would be out of work. To solve the problem you would have to make govt research grant money illegal. Besides in our society, if a cure were found, the libs would find a way to demonize its discoverer. As soon as it were discovered they'd be complaining about the discoverer profiting from another's misery.

I agree with Rugster. population control and the all mighty dollar. Two things that would suffer greatly if there was a cure for either cancer or AIDS. My father's side of the family has a history of it and my uncle died of it a couple years back. I doubt we'll ever see a cure...unless they colonize the moon and start building housing over there to handle the overflow of people.

The drug companies spend inordinate amounts of time looking for the next superpopular drug at the expense of serious research on promising avenues for many diseases that might be cured. They will follow a cancer treatment all the way to market only if it promises to sell to a large number of consumers. The designer drugs are the most promising engineering technique for cancer cures, probably, and we may see some. But not out of the goodness of the executives' hearts. This country is so badly in need of prescription pricing reform it isn't funny. Look what has happened to the price of Prozac since Lilly lost the exclusive? Suddenly, it's affordable without the "help" of insurance companies. I'm beginning to wonder whether the secret to solving the medical care problems is to stay away from the insurance companies and price procedures so the average man can pay, like car repairs.

Tazmutt- similar story, I'm going on my 7th year minus a cecum, ileocal valve and a 26mm flat cancerous tumor. It was within 6 months of growing through the colons' outside membrane into the liver. I had no symptoms and there's no cancer in my family. The oncologist said I would have been dead six years ago had a colonoscopy not found it.

v35 - Stuff sucks don't it ? Glad for you they found it and hope you have many more "clean" years. Mine was found when it did rupture the colon walls, got into the lymph system but not in liver. Just had another follow up PET scan. Have you heard of them ? relatively new and had to fight with med. ins to pay it but much clearer and more defined than CAT scan. Everyone said I was to mean to die from mere cancer, so I guess Im probably gonna make it , chemo sucked tho .

    Regards, Tazmutt
