squirrel season opened the first of august in illinois and i have been out seven times and am styill loking to kill my first one. usually by this time of year i have 20/30 in my frying pan. i did see afew this morning and missed one[well partialy,i didnt get him]. the nuts seem to be verylight to non existent. no walnuts at all,no pecans and very few hickory nuts. i sure hope things improve as i retire next sat.8-31-02 and hope to do quite a bit of hunting and fishing while i am still half way healthy. I also live in Illinois. I see at least 10 squirrels on the way to my car every morning. They are caffiene addicts, and take Viagra. There would be no way of hitting them.

Not sure where in IL you are located, but I am in KY just across the river from Metropolis. Squirrel's a'plenty on this side of the mighty Ohio. The problem I am having is that the area I hunt is saturated with hickory trees, and all of them are covered in nuts. The squirrel's aren't concentrated in any one area this way. Makes hunting hard! But there are plenty out there. Good luck!

CAndres35-Don't feel bad. Outside of in my back yard, I haven't seen to many of them either. You're right about the nut trees. There's not many in my area that seemed to be real productive this year. I think we've talked before. You're in the southern part of the state near St. Louis aren't you?

rameleni1-What part of the state are you in? I'm about 15 to 20 minutes north of LaSalle.

When that book finally gets to you dont worry. There are enough down here to kill all year and never run out. There is atleast 200 for every human here. They are like a plague.

    CAndres35,
I am about 3 hours south of you in KY. If you ever get down this way, give me a holler and we can try to pop a few bushy tails. I am like you, like squirrel hunting as well as, if not better, than any other kind of hunting. We come to St. Louis frequently. Son is a patient at Shriner's Hospital on Lindbergh.

Any squirrel deemed missing from any state is probably in my backyard or climbing on my bird feeders. So as not to offend any squirrel lubbers, I won't say how many we (me, yungun and dawg) kill each year but it would probably feed 500 Ethiopians
