10mm question

I'm thinking of buying a 10mm glock. I've heard of guys shooting .40's in 10mm's is this possible and if so is it safe?

Thanks,
Jason

Think of the .40 as a short 10mm much as a .357 is a longer, stronger .38 Special. I don't know if it would cycle, but it can fire.
I wouldn't do it on a regular basis for fear of chamber wear and leading from the short cartridge causing problems when going back to the 10mm.

If you don't change the barrel to one with the .40 S&W chamber, you are asking for trouble. And, to do it in a Glock, which has a history of Ka-Booms anyway, would be ignorant. If you want to shoot 10mm's, buy a 10mm. If you want to shoot .40 S&W's, buy a .40 S&W. The springs and magazines are different, and they are designed for the specific cartridge they are asking for. I wouldn't mix and match without a letter from the maker saying it is safe. And your not going to get that.

It does work and it is dangerous. I know a fellow who competes in IDPA matches with 40 S&W in a Glock 29, so far so good.

I vote for you getting the 10mm and using lite loads, ie those equal to the 40sw and then use the full house 10mm when needed. Much like the 41 mag. My 2 cents

jhoutdoors, yes, you can buy aftermarket barrels (for .40 S&W and .357 SIG) for ~ $100 and they just drop in. It is nice to be able to switch around for either firing the cheaper .40 or just to choose one of those two calibers for reduced recoil. If you don't see any barrels listed on here, fleabay has them listed all the time. You won't regret it if ya get a 10mm! [:p]

A S&W 610 is made to do just that. But that is a whole different can of worms.

quote:A rimless cartridge headspaces on the chamber shoulder??????

How about on the mouth of the case.

I agree it is a bad idea and will lead to mis-fires if nothing else.
