It really depends on a few things,
like what part of the country you are in,
and whether it is day or night,
and how powerful is the light your
    wearin` on your head.

No No No- your all wrong! The .243 is the best deer rifle here in south texas. Long range, very accurate and you can shoot'em in the head to drop them. But then again, at a distance past 200 yds, I choose the 30-06 because of the energy!
It all depends what your shooting- (size/weight/ distance).
It's still fun for the 30-30 at 100 yds or less- yes it's a great rifle!

Doesn't this only show popularity by caliber of suitable deer cartridges, not popularity by caliber of cartridges used solely for deer?

with the number of states that wont let you shoot a rifle i would think the 12 ga. would have to rank right up there with the others.

danceswithsheep- The truth shall set you free! Don't get off the subject. We all know you can kill a deer with any gun- the hope is to kill without suffering and to get that shot with one bullet. If one asks a simple question- he deserves a simple and thoughtout answere. A little humor thrown in is a bonus!

daddo: I'm afraid the significance or point of this poll escapes me. All it says is that here are the three most popular calibers suitable for deer. Whether sales were in fact used for deer and not black bear or some other game animal is not actually known, is it?

HOld everything!! It wasn't that long ago when some of the
professional xperts here were shouting from the rooftops
(at least the 'puter tops) that the 17 Hornady was sure kill out to 1000 yds, no i didn't stutter, one thousand yards an he, they, him, could put it "in the ear" with iron sites. Remember??
Or is it short memory time again??

Do you think, maybe it has something
to do with these 3 rounds being about
all you can get at some Wall-Marts,
and a lot of hunters buy rifles:"`Cause
    I can * the bullits at Wal-Mart".

    Another thing,
    what the hell
    is goin` on here?...
    Nobody said anything
    about bees!!

All this time I thought that people used a silenced 22 with a flashlight. Think I was in the same part of the country as 218 Bee. LOL

If I knew then, what I know now.

What about the .32-40, .38-55, .45-70, .32 Win Spl, ad infinitum. Don't take much to kill a whitetail except a good shot.

I think the number 1 after dark "Get the spotlight out" is the 22 Long Rifle. Should rate right up there
