LeMat revolvers

The thread on wide shotgun patterns for home defense shotguns got
me to thinking about the Civil War era LeMat revolver. If I remember
correctly a standard issue LeMat held nine .40 rounds with a short
20 ga shotgun barrel for a cylinder pin. Even today this sounds like some serious close range firepower.
Anyone here have any experience with one of these?
What kind of shotgun pattern did they give?
How heavy were they?

I think the guage was 16 but im not exactly sure. One of the reenactors in our unit has one and the thing ways a ton. A pain in the @$$ to clean. I woudnt use it for home defense because black powder is involved... i dont wont any misfires or caps accidently falling off.
Go Army Beat Navy
IF you wanna have fun jine the cavalry
interesting old firearm.
That was a lot of firepower for a Civil War soldier to carry in his hand, but was probably only good for very short range oh * situations. It was the MAC-10 of it's day.
