Auction results

I sold my first gun on this auction recently and found a winner. The guy didn't follow instructions. He sent me a personal, company check instead of the money order or cashier's check I asked for. Of course, being out of state, my bank held it. He didn't send shipping, I said I would only charge actual shipping. When his check cleared I shipped the gun and e-mailed him to let him know what the shipping was. Three weeks later I never heard from him, I submitted a "C" rating on feedback. He promptly gave me a "D" on feedback and blamed me on the delay. I don't really care what this guy thinks of me, but now I've got a low rating if I bid on any auctions in the future. What, if anything, can I do?

I had a similiar experince when bought my first gun here. The seller did not even have the gun in stock, and after stringing me along (lying to me) for three weeks (remember he has my money) he finally ships. Well I never did leave feedback, and he left negative feed back, and feedback has a time limit.

lead, like you, I started out from the presumption that buyers are honest, honorable souls. Well, 95+% are, but after being burned a few times, if it's a personal check it is either returned or or the purchase is held for a minimum of ten business days. To avoid the shipping fiasco you encountered, I don't give out my address until I have theirs. You can leave a rebuttal on the feedback which was posted. While some people just look at numbers in feedback, I think most take the time to read at least the negatives. I always check the feedback of anyone who posts negatively about another party. Much of the time, they prove to be some sort of jerk.

I agree with LIKTOSHOOT. I have had to "return to sender" a check a few times. I also agree with Iconoclast. 95% of buyers are good. You will run across a bad one sooner or later if you sell enough. Too bad it was your first time.

If I knew then, what I know now.

If you needed the money bad enough to deposit his check, I would have at least e-mailed him first and let him choose: You sent me a non-cashier's check and no shipping. Do you want me to bank-hold this until your shipping M.O. arrives, or return it to you and have you mail a money order for the correct amount with shipping? Then he couldn't b**** about the delay, at least, and he'd have an opportunity to explain himself. If he didn't respond, I'd have returned his check with a note of explanation.

I'm working on a non-paying winner over on eBay right now. They have forms and methods in place so I can get eBay's share of my unpaid winnings back and relist. These people aren't brave enough to write you once they decide to back out. Their e-mail always just dries up when they get cold feet. I guess admitting "yes, I'm a jerk," isn't their idea of a good time, but bidding on any ol' auction is... If I knew a cop in Brooklyn it would be fun to have them stop by to inquire and make them p*** their pants....

It might also be nice if GB "admin" read your post above and offered to help you out with this idiot. No shipping means no gun in the mail, in my book. That explains the delay.

I currently have 2 firearms that the MO's and FFL were sent to by Express Mail 2 weeks ago and they have not even aknowledged receiving them or if the firearm has even been sent or by what method it was sent if they were. Already left negative feedback on them for this reason. Will edit it as soon as I receive the items. Hopefully the items are in the condition stated or they may not like the edited portion.

Thanks for your words of wisdom. I assumed I could deal in good faith and would be treated likewise. Live and learn. Good luck to all of you dealing with the same thing.

Welcome to the world of internet sales. It's too bad your first experience was a bad one. I too agree with LIKTOSHOOT. Send the cheque back with your specific instructions and the proper amount he must send. Also if you have the buyers zip code and know the weight of the pakage, you can go online with the USPS and figure out the exact cost.
Best thing is to learn from this experience, move on, and forget about it.

Just continue buying and selling, and dealing honestly and your ratings will soon be up. Buy from one of my auctions and I guarantee
good feedback (as long as the money order actually arrives, ha ha!).
