Can somebody please delete the post from sfrench in the thread about Scott? It would be nice to keep it clean and classy for his family.

not so fast.
admin needs to verify who's address is listed for donations.

Having experienced more aspects of the internet than a single forum, I would not have detected french's remark as out of the ordinary. When you ask for donations to a public, multinational group of people that is then picked up and broadcasted via Google, it sort of has an off-odor to it.
I can't tell mods how to do their job but I think the posts asking for donations and giving personal identification and addresses publicly are the ones that are inappropriate and a potential safety issue. That stuff is private business and if the poster is legit then they may not realize the potential risk of their posts.
Sorry to hear about Scott.
Any one remember the E Williams saga a few years back..I can understand the Skepticism on some peoples part. It wouldnt have been the first time someone tried a Scam in here..Several ex-members have taken some of us..

Yep, Eric was shot through his kitchen window IIRC....

I'm saddened that a person that I have shared an online forum with has been reported dead. That said, I think it would have been more appropriate to reach out to personal contacts of the deceased, rather than announce it on the general forum and give personal information and ask for donations.

That information was only given AFTER somebody here ASKED where donations could be sent.

I have learned to withhold comments until the facts are in. Don
I believe the scepticism is normal. If you have been here a while then you remember several incidents. dheffley was reported to have died from a heart attack by his "son". We have had a members kid shot in Iraq and later died in Germany.

Skepticism IS normal. Rude comments are not. (At least for MOST of us. Obviously, that's not the case for sfrench.)

It's too bad everyone on the forum did not stick to that simple ideal in this case.

This does not change any meaning or concerns listed in my comment. If someone wants personal info because they made a choice to donate, want to do some identity fraud, or make a late night visit to the address then that should be handled in private rather than leaving it posted to a world-wide audience. A google search on the guys name now links to the thread that contains his address, alternate names, name of widowed fiance, links to a wide open facebook with pictures of his property, etc, etc, on and on. That is the point I'm trying to make by saying that the posts with personal info about someone else (against posting guidelines?) could use the judgement of a moderator. Whether frenchie is a jerk or a wise man that made a PC slip are much less of an issue.

Got it. I misunderstood your reasoning. Still, the idiot's comment should be removed out of respect for the family.
