I was reading another thread about Seals and nam vets.
Set me to wondering how many members are Nam vets and where and when were they in county.

I was in the Army during the war ('68,'69','70) but never got orders for 'Nam. Knew lots of folks who DID go. My brother was at Pleiku, a good buddy of mine was a door gunner on Marine helicopters and flew in and out of Ke Sahn during the siege and another friend of mine spent a lot of time at fire support bases in the A Shau valley.

    Half-way wish I'd gone, half-way glad I didn't.

USS Tawakoni(ATF-114). Summer '72 DaNang. Towed the destroyer, USS Warrington, back to Subic Bay, PI after she ran over a mine and broke her back. Turned around and spent the rest of the summer diving off DaNang for an ARVN helo that had crashed with an ARVN 3 star on board. You know how the Vietnamese are about burying the body in the home county. When we finally found the helo all they wanted was the 3 star's remains(visualize 3 months in salt water with little critters eating it up!)....the Vietnamese government didn't give a hoot about the rest of the crew. I guess some animals are more equal than others. Beach

USAF Special Activites detachment, October 67 to Oct 68, Saigon. Watched the TET attack from my apartment balcony and thought it was the Vietnamese celebrating the Lunar New Year (served in other Far East countries). Was really surprised to learn they weren't!!!!!

It's not what you know that gets you in trouble, it's what you know that just ain't so!

15 months with the Americal Division. Base camp was Chu Lai.
It sucked. No George W. Bushs, Dick Cheneys, Dick Gephart, Tom Dashels, John Ashcrofts, Bill Clintons, George Wils, Rush Limbaughs were to be found anywhere.

22WRF: Just pointing out facts. Those conservatives most gung ho on sending our troops overseas avoided military service themselves. I understand they were much too busy doing other things than to serve their country.

Managed to avoid it. Spent 13 years overseas at two assignments. Madrid (Torrejon) and London/Oxford (High Wycombe and Croughton). Numerous temp assignments (TDYs) to middle and near east, and Africa.

    Clouder..
