Quit My Job Today

Some of you might remember I posted asking about dealing with unethical management about a month ago. I'd written a scalding letter of resignation and asked for opinions. Well, I haven't sent the letter yet, but did turn in my two weeks notice today.
The new job I'm taking will be very interesting, and I'll be doing enough traveling I could possibly meet some of you. I'll be conducting Quality Assurance Process Audits for the National Aerospace and Defense Contractor's Accreditation Program (NADCAP). My specialty will be nondestructive testing (NDT) audits. What this involves is going around to the smaller shops that supply large defense and aerospace firms with articles and auditing them to see that they are complying with specifications. My first week on the job I'll be in Cincinnatti, my second week in Quebec. Those two weeks are just my initial training audits, after that I'll be more localized in the midwest. That's basically a territory that runs from Wisconson down through Texas and out to Arizona. Of course, my home state of Kansas is in the territory as well.
It will be kinda interesting because it's just a part time job, I'll work an average of 3 days per week (really, just 120 days per year). Some weeks five days, other weeks one or two days (if that much). I'll make a tad less than I'm making now but it will give me plenty of spare time, kinda like semi-retirement.
I'm planning on stopping in gun shops and pawn shops while I'm on the road. Maybe take in some gun shows, flea markets and such. If y'all have any shops you run, or just think I'd enjoy, let me know and I'll stop in.

cbxjeffIt's too late for me, save yourself.
If I may respectfully suggest: Don't send the letter. Though it may make you feel you "got a lick in," it won't do you any good...and, in fact, it may come back to haunt you later in your career. Just give your notice saying the reason you're leaving is "for a position you think will be better for you." Tell them they have a good company and you've enjoyed working there. Leave on good terms and with a smile on your face. That's the smart thing to do...and advice from someone who has "been around the block" one-hundred times.
twist of fate, I also started a new job at 54. Hopefully it will be
my last. It's a civil service job. Good luck at your new job.

Good luck, however, I doubt you'll need it ... yer da man!
Been wondering how you've been; Congrats and all the best!

Yes, I remember your post. Glad to hear you haven't sent the letter yet. I think I can re-state the consensus opinion from before:
DO
NOT
SEND

25-06, I'm in Wichita but will probably be cutting through your corner of the State sometime. About 3 years ago my kids and I drove to Sante Fe via Liberal and visited an old member here, teehee, while on vacation. I haven't heard much from teehee lately. Maybe I'd ought to drop him a note.
*, I'm familiar with some of Kraut-Krammer's older stuff. They made good equipment a few years back but I haven't kept up on there new stuff. Most of the UT scopes out there now have that touchpad to bring up the menu, to adjust all the units functions with just one knob. It always seemed easier to me if there were different knobs for every function, as it use to be. It's much quicker to dial the old units in, rather than to have to go through the menu everytime you want to change the knob's function. I'm betting the next big fad in UT scopes will be independent knobs for the different functions, just like it use to be. Also, I've seen some great used NDT equipment on ebay, of all places. You could probably save some money over buying new, where half the sales price is eaten up in commission to the salesman.
Timberbeast! I have two daughters, 10 and 12, who live with their mother in Milwaukee most of the year. They are with me during the summers, spring break, Christmas and such. Where in WI are you?
Bluetic, I'm afraid I don't have any use for a welder. I'll just be auditing what they do. But I probably know people who need welders. What's your background?
