What am I missing?

These three, short sentences tell you a lot about the direction of our
current government and cultural environment:

1. We are advised to NOT judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few
lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions
of a few lunatics. Funny how that works.

2. Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run
out of money. How come we never hear about welfare or food stamps
running out of money? What's interesting is the first group "worked
for" their money, but the second didn't. Think about it.....

and Last but not least,

3. Why are we cutting benefits for our veterans, no pay raises for our
military and cutting our army to a level lower than before WWII, but
we are not stopping the payments or benefits to illegal aliens.

Am I the only one missing something?

Is this an M1A1? I guess I thought an M1A1 was a Thompson or a tommy gun.

    Isn't this a M1 carbine?

Looking at some 405 W brass on the auction side I see some "once fired" (meaning God only knows how many times it's been loaded) Hornady cases with a starting price of about $1.10 per case.

I see several dealers offering brand new Hornady brass in this caliber for $46-$49 per 50, or just about a buck apiece. Would anybody pay MORE for used stuff? Do the sellers know something I don't?

The way I figure, who I am is no secret. I'm sure "the powers that be" already know what I HAVE so I'm going to give you the short list and ask you to name one gun that would give the small collection more "balance".

    Remington 597 .22LR
    Ruger MK II .223
    Winchester 70 .270
    Ithaca 37 12 ga
Mossberg 835 12 ga (plus rifled slug barrel)
    Baikal SXS .410
    Glock 23 .40
    S&W 686 .357
    Beretta 21 Inox .22LR

On the way: Ruger P95D 9mm

    What's missing?

I was thinking about shaving my shekels and getting a 1911-type pistol with a budget of around $800 - $1000.

The people of Crimea have apparently voted in almost 100% numbers to rejoin Russia. I understand that is not necessarily a good thing for our interests. But it sure seems to me like it's their right. What am I missing?

Why so much for 4 mags? I think I would spend the money on a new gun.

You need a semi rifle, a 1911 and a big revolver (44 mag). That should do it.

any old greasy military thing you can find, Carcanos go cheap, like new, only dropped once.
    1911
    1911
1911 (need a few of those)

A kimber Custom will run you less than 800 after tax (in PA) I really like mine, its 1911 #3

Get the 1911 first, then look up a 03a3 (for historical balance) then a 30 cal hunting rifle

    Yup. A .44 mag. Maybe a nice single-action like a Ruger Super Blackhawk or Vaquero. Or a big-frame double-action like a Redhawk.

I was considering a Kimber Eclipse. I haven't decided. I would really like something with fixed sights though. I know I promised dad I'd buy his Kel Tec from him because mom doesn't like it anymore but I do. After that $100 is spent I think I'll be looking towards a Kimber. Maybe I'll just save much much longer and look into a Les Baer or a Wilson Combat.

xp-100 in caliber of your choice. My choice would be old model in 7mmBR. GHD PS. It might be a rifle that hasn't grown up yet (according to another member) but they sure add another dimension to shooting!! GHD

I'd consider that but there really isn't anything I can hunt in Iowa with a handgun that fires rifle-calibers. I'd quote the exact law but my mind is tired. I was looking at a very nice custom T/C in .7mm-08 but then I found out that you can't hunt with a handgun chambered for .7mm-08 and I didn't want to have yet another gun that I can't hunt with here in Iowa. I'm not necessarily looking for a hunter but there's not much else to do with a T/C in .7mm-08

If I bought a J-22 with bayonet then a certain MONKEY might challenge me to a duel. My pride would get in the way and I would accept the challenge knowing full-well that I am no match for a MONKEY carrying a J-22 with a bayonet attached.

Aside from the J22 (and obligatory bayonet) there are a couple of things missing from your battery. Most obvious (and several have already identified it) is a 1911 style pistol in .45ACP. The other glaring absence is (you know what is coming)

If you get a chance, put a few rounds through a Kimber Custom, very nice firearm and within the budget you mentioned. I have a Kimber Gold Match and am really pleased with it. Three of my friends shoot all the local and regional matches in the area and all three use
    standard Kimber Customs.

Don't listen to these inept baffoons. Get a Jennings 9mm. From what I hear they can shoot over 5000 rounds in 3 hours without a single malfunction. Of course this is from reading, I find it a much more reliable source than actually getting my hands dirty. Actually I have never even seen a real gun up close....I've read that they're pretty neat though.

Let me lay hands on the wonderment....I say the lord giveth and a kept on a givin....can I get a hell yeah?

The Les Baer and Wilson Combat pieces are a little pricey but worth it...once you've held these and looked them over, everything else else seems lacking.

    Duh ... what about a Beretta 92 ... or even an M9

Actually the Kimber would fit the bill nicely. As Rembrant said the Wilsons and Les Baer are awful nice ... but then you could by at least 2 Kimbers for one of those supergrades ...

I don't see a AK style weapon, an SKS or a Mauser in the list ... a HK or FAL, or if you want to stay with American guns, the M1A, Garrand and Springfield '03 come to mind ...

So many guns, so little green!

    A nice Sig 226
A Rem. Sendero in a magnum caliber
    A desert eagle
    An ar-15 or an M1A.

Any or all of the above would be a fine addition to your growing collection.

    When in doubt...empty the magazine!!

I agree with shootist3006. A 30.06 would make a fine addition to any collection.

For the handgun chose the standard weapon that you like and trick it out yourself.

Yep, you need a larger pistol, you pick, but I'd go with a 44 or 454.
You also need a rifle in the .30 caliber range, again you pick, but I'd recommend something like a 30-06. Price range makes a diff. as well as whether or not you reload. Personally, I'd go with a .338 for the big gun, as I like mine, and then fill in the blanks below from that caliber down.
