Upon entering the state on our trip out here, there was a HUGE billboard that said "Animal Activists are not welcome here..."
I got a big kick out of that one...[8D][:)]

    I like South Dakota.
My family is from South Dakota. I have visited up there quite a bit.
My best friend moved up there from Georgia several years ago, to work at a hospital as a PA in the emergency room.
My friend was very happy to see the high quality of education in the public schools. He was also pleased with the very low crime rate. In his town, people don't lock their doors. My friend found South Dakota to be far ahead of Georgia in the quality of public education, and in a far lower crime rate. He attributes these differences to the "lack of diversity" in the population of South Dakota.

The Black Hills are only about 4-5 hours from here. Makes a great weekend get-away. I'd love to so some prairie doggin' there sometime.

Takes a certain type to live up there full time. Very hunter friendly place, even to out of staters like me. Read somewhere that out of state hunters bring in around $300 million to the state economy every year. Last fall when I got off the plane there was a giant red banner stretched across the terminal that said,"WELCOME HUNTERS" Don't think I could live there full time though. Not enough trees and way too flat. And the waitresses keep trying to make you eat veggies when alls you want is another steak and ceurvo.

Cowdoc...wish I had known! We could have dropped in on you. We stayed on 90 till the Black Hills, then we dropped down and went through the Black Hills and cut across Wyoming to the Grand Tetons (sp?) and up through Yellow Stone...back to 90 West...to Idaho

...We sat in a motel room in Mobridge for two days, waiting for it to quit raining. I was determined to get some fishing in on Lake Oahe. It was worth the wait. I don't recall how many species we caught, but there was some of everything in that lake.
...Nice state. Nice folks. Too cold in winter for my bones though.

The only problem with SD is that the Hills have been discovered by Californians and such - including one Kevin Costner. Prices through the roof!!!!

Great state even if it is down south[;)]

They do talk a little funny down south there however.[:D]
