Uncle Sam sold some 1911's during the 50's-60's for prices like $14.95. Back then it was not called CMP. Can you guys recall what it was named?

The Dept of Civilian Markmanship. Still around as the CMP, no more cheap .45s (or cheap rifles, either) but they do still have guns for sale. As far as I know, the only way to buy a rifle and have it shipped to you across a state line WITHOUT going thru a FFL.

I have an M1 carbine - Inland '44 - my father purchased from the government for $17.95 in '63; however, somehow the NRA was involved as the paperwork states "NRA request to Anniston Army Depot". This one doesn't sound like the DCM was involved. Good deal though, the $2.50 shipping brought the total to $20.00

I have my receipt for a M1911 (SN# 276XXX) from the Anniston Army Depot Anniston, Alabama, no mention of the DCM. The "document date" is a rather cryptic 271.
Price was $14.15 & packing & handling of $2.85. It does say transportation chargeable to "commercial collect" but I don't recall paying anything more.
At the bottom is a notation NRA voucher # & the rest is torn off.
    The paper is very fragile.
