Some M1903, M1903A3, M1 rifles and M1 Carbines had 2 holes on the left side of the stock.
Was this original, if so, what were they there for?

    Right on
I have a few that I'm going to put out tomorrow when my wife opens up her yard sale.
Never used, marked 1944 but for some reason they are not valuable.
I think I got them for 10.00 apiece years ago.

Mine are like this one with the peep sight and the bubble level
I want some thing to show while I'm sitting around waiting at the yard sale.
I had so many that I gave some away.
Maybe I'll have a quiz and give one away
    Will see

Thanks for posting Wallie. My M1 has those, always wondered what the were for. Just assumed the were some kind of sight, but didn't know what kind.

Forgot about the awesome power of the GB forum[^]

Yup. I bought a beater stock here several years ago just to use with my grenade launcher and sight.

I recall firing a couple of practice grenades in basic from my rifle & it didn't have a separate sight. Too long ago to recall how we were told to aim them.
