I have a set of Dewalt pilot point bits that are dull as all get out. Would a drill doctor be worth buying to re sharpen them, or would it take to long since I believe that I'd have to grind the pilot part off? Thanks.

If you buy one follow the directions exact [;)]
I bought a drill Dr awhile back, think it was like the 750 series, (goes up to 3/4 inch bits.
I had several large piles of drill bits to sharpen and found that for the larger bits, about 7/16 and up I needed the coarser stone to speed up the sharpening process, but finished with the standard OEM fine stone supplied with the Drill Dr.
I also thought I knew how to sharpen the large drill bits (and others) for drilling steel. Sure good that I tested the bits before sharpening all. First few I sharpened would not drill, especially the larger ones.
I used a marks A lot pen to color the end of the bit so as to get a equal grind across the face and found that for the larger bits I needed to do a 10 degree positive relief grind instead of a standard 118 degrees for the large bit to drill into mild steel. (you cannot see the difference in 118 degrees and a positive relief of 10 degrees but you can tell the difference when you test the bit by drilling)
Summary: Check the bits as you sharpen them or you might come up with bunch of bits that look great but won't drill a hole into warm margarine.
My bench grinder does ANY type of steel bit.[:D]

I cheat. I own a Darex with diamond wheels. I only buy Cobalt drills.

I also wanted to add that it will do any size up to 1/2" in the top and larger ones it has a separate wheel.
