My friend wants to trade me a Remington 700 bdl in 257 roberts, he is asking 1300, for my Marlin 1894 fg 41 mag. Both guns are almost NIB. I was asking 1250 for the 41, that is what I sold my last one for here on GB.Both guns are 97% condition. Would you make the trade??? I love the 257 and have three 1894 fg's in 41 mag.

Since you have three, I would make the trade.

    I have a 25-06 and a 25WSSM....I really want a 257 Roberts and/or a 6.5-257 Roberts.

    I would in a minute. A person can use a 257 R in a 700, a 1894 is most likely just going to be a safe queen.

I would be posting pics of your new 257 Roberts right now!

*with the caveat that it is a cartridge I would reload.

Oakie, you have to be kidding us,..right? a 700 BDL in 257 bob, albeit a rare chambering, for $1300????? NO WAY on God's green earth. If it is NIB or close to it,..maybe $900, not a dime more. Tell him you can have a NIB Sendero for $1100-$1200, and it will shoot circles round a standard BDL rem 700.

Maybe on the internet, but not to anyone who is a collector that knows the market.[V] If his is TRULY NIB, mayyyybbbeeee if you really want to have one to sit in the safe and never shoot it,..but that price is still a stretch.

almost NIB is like saying my .357mag is almost a colt python. The chambering in 257 is rare, but not worth $1300, at least not to me. You would be better off buying a NIB VSSF in 220 swift, since they are discontinued, and with their accuracy, will one day be highly sought after.

Get some fair boot and get the thing. A 700 in 257 Roberts is fun. ....and that's what it's all about.

I already have a 700 in 257 BOB, this one would be for my kid. I will take your good advice. I didn't know the value of his gun, Know I do. Thank you . Oakie

Look on GB. One for 1400 and one for 2400. Just nuts I say. I have many BDL's Just didn't realize that a 257 was that rare and expensive.

If it were me i would do the trade, the marlin will hold its value and only increase with the new gun trend which is geared toward defensive type guns, i see interest in hunting type rifles really on the decline if investment is a factor. That 700 is is a very rare find indeed and way more useful[:)]

it isn't that rare as far as production, it was actually the "classic" rifle in 1982. But for $1300, I would go for a VSSF or Sendero[;)] and have a few hundred left over[:D]

there was one on another site for $650 and it set there for several weeks with no bites.

I decided to sell my 41 mag outright. I found a few BDL's in 257 for a lot less and will just buy one.
