Suggestion on feedback

Last night, I bid on an item that has NO bids. Later, I find out I won and was directed to the GB checkout system which I let seller know I would be paying by USPS MO and would send MO this morning.
The auction was 7 days.

To my surprise, I received an email from the seller that said "Sorry but I added to the description that the ITEM was sold earlier. Again I apologize but we do not have another ITEM"

I want to emphasize the seller added the information he did not have the item until after I bid.

MODS if you think this post is inappropriate, please delete.

I dont think you can add to the description of a finished auction. I would give them bad feedback and describe what they did.

you can add to description after a bid is placed but before the auction ends.

you have the seller over a barrel. you can leave him a F if you want to or you can understand that sometimes a seller may relist an item that has already sold. it's called a mistake. I've done that a couple times over the years. meant to hit delete and hit realist - got in a hurry.

just depends on how forgiving a person you are and how sincere the seller seams to be.

one guy said "no problem" understood stuff happens and moved on.

other guy gives an F fb and says" claims to have sold the item and blah blah" like I picked on him and chose to not sell 4 mags ($125) to him. jeez man if I had the mags I'd be glad to sell them to you.

I had 2500 of those mags btw and after sandy hook they flew out so fast in pairs and 4's I sold out before I pulled ONE of the 10 auctions I had going on them at the time.

RR, That is what happened. It was added after I bid and before the action ended. I have over many years 200+ buys and 6 instances where sellers did not have the stuff. I ignored all but 2 instances.

I will add I was getting a fantastic deal on a rare non gun item that starting price was low plus I was only bidder.

Feedback is based on integrity, I wonder if by just forgetting and moving on, I am doing the right thing.

If I recall correctly what CaptFun has said, it is against GB rules for a seller to sell an item in the store after an auction has bids.

Which is understandable to me at least.

Open a support issue. Captain will handle it from there.

How many transactions, or feedbacks does the seller have, and how many items do they currently have for sale? My thought is that if it is a seller who does a lot of business on gb and they just forgot to remove it then hey, things happen. However, if it was a seller who has 5 feedbacks and nothing else currently for sale then it might just be laziness. Add the seller to your favorites list and see if it comes back up for sale with a higher asking price[;)]

If he's been selling a lot, and he knows how to add to the description text, he knows how to end the auction early.

    Smells fishy here. [xx(]

Never thought of it from that angle. I wonder what our captain fun would recommend.

Me thinks he wants his cake and ate it too. Bet the Support folks take a dim view of his antics and delete his account.

I guess this seller missed this rule.
    http://www.GunBroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=496152581
    Seller says:

IF AN ITEM SELLS ON OUR SHOP FLOOR FIRST WE WILL HONOR THAT SALE BEFORE THE GunBroker SELL, PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS WHEN BIDDING.

I give this seller credit for at least warning anyone before they bid

I thought long and hard, plus considered responses here. I decided not to open a support issue.

What I did was give the seller a D with comments saying the item was sold locally. As much as I dislike giving a neg feedback, I feel if we are not going to be honest with feedback we might as well not use it at all.

Right now, I sit and wait to see if I get reciprocal negative feedback.

I think you did right, as it could have been an honest mistake. However, as I mentioned in my last post keep that auction number handy and see if it comes up again at a higher price. Then lower the boom on him[;)]

That is great advice. He didn't want to lose money and that was why you got this lame excuse. Sounds fishy alright. D feedback was too nice in my opinion. [;)]Oakie
