Dog Depression??

Our 2 year old schnauzer is not acting herself. She just sits and stares at us. She usually greets us at the door and spins in circles. She also is very playful and attentive to us as we are to her. She now hides under our bed and we have to drag her out.Last night she went under our dresser and we still don't know how she got there[:0]Donna, Chris and I, had to lift the dresser up to get her out. It is about four or five inches high and she is about thirty pounds. I might set a trail cam up.She Won't eat or play or anything. Really weird. Donna took her to the vet and the vet said she is very healthy and nothing is wrong that she can see. Took blood work and xrays. Dr. Bell think she is depressed. We also have another dog and they get along fine, so she is not alone all day. This has me worried a little. She eats just enough to survive. Stool is fine also. Last time I had a dog do this, they up and died. She has been like this for about a month. The other thing that has me worried, is she loves her treats. Now she won't even eat them. [:(] Man, I am sick to my stomach worrying about her all day. Tomorrow she is going to the office with me. Oakie

Some dogs need a job, our Aussie Hazel is happiest when "helping" me in the yard.
Plus they are pack animals, taking the pooch to work is a good idea.

I agree get her out and see some people. Dogs are pack animals and are happiest when with some one.

dogs can get depressed or wierded out, but a) that doesn't last long, b) if it was something that bad it would be hard to miss whatever happened that was so awful to make them like that, and b) it's never going to last for weeks at a time. unless something like the owner is dead and gone.

it's not depression. there is something making your dog physically sick. okay you already got x-rays and blood tests. I'd watch that dog like a hawk for anything out of the ordinary to give a clue what's going on.

one thing that might give you a clue, is she hiding under the dresser because she wants to be alone (as if sick) or because she is fearful of something?

While health issues are possible, I'd look closely at environment.
I'm not trying to pry, and you don't need to answer. Is everything cool with you and the wife? Other members of the household?
Dogs are sensitive to things like that. Even stress over something like finances or work. They're also sensitive to your health and may sense something you're unaware of or think trivial.

When I first found out the ex hadn't paid taxes on the house as I thought she had I didn't say a word, I just sat here stunned, feeling like someone had shoved five pounds of horse poop down my throat.
It didn't take a minute and Teeny was by my chair with her head laying in my lap. I couldn't even go to the bathroom what she'd be standing at the door waiting for me to come out. She followed my every step, glued to my hip.

    All the above.

Consider all environmental factors. All good among the family? Anybody around would maybe be treating the dog unkindly? Change in diet? Any chemicals around the dog could get into? Antifreeze in a pan in a garage? Lapping from water puddles or toilets?

Get that second opinion from another Vet.

    All the above.

Did you check to see if she's got a bad tooth? Maybe an abscess?

That was my first choice, you beat me to it.

You don't feed the Dog anything with onions or garlic do you? I had to quit giving my Dog Greenies type chews because she started doing the same thing as your Dog.

When I called the company about the Garlic in them they said there wasn't enough in them to hurt her! I threw them away and she went back to normal.

onions will kill a dog. a little bit will hurt them. the effects are cumulative and don't go away. could be hurting from sore kidneys. a blood test would show onion poisoning if the vet is looking, but maybe he wasn't and maybe low level poisoning from weeks ago won't show anything affecting the blood today, blood back to normal but the damage is done.

just a scenario. could be checked by calling the vet back and ask if the blood test would have detected slight onion poisoning from weeks ago.

Have her checked again. Blood work, onions cause anemia, certain foods can cause pancreatitis, antifreeze causes kidney problems, chocolate effect is immediate and usually causes seizures, schnauzers have a hyperlipidemia problem, tell the vet of all her daily habits like excessive thirst, vomiting or diarrhea, acting painfull when you pick her up. She is young, I hope you can get a diagnosis and fix her. Get a second opinion, the new vet can get the previous lab work and xrays from 1st vet. Good luck.

She only eats dog food, rice and chicken that the wife makes for them. I took her to work today and she just sat under my desk and mopped all day. Got home and she was okay, but still not herself.I also had to take the other dog and she ended up pooping all over the carpet of course[}:)][}:)][}:)] Tonight when I got home from my motorcycle ride, she greeted me at the door and is sitting beside me now. I think she just misses me or something to do with me????? No really sure. Going to give her the weekend and then go to another vet for a 2nd opinion. We never give our dog Chocolate or grapes or any of the things that are bad for them.
