Strange doings at my house tonight

Maybe I was a little premature with my ridicule of the History Channel for their ghost stories.

About 10:30 my wife was in bed, probably asleep. My dog was in the back room with me, definitely asleep. I was at the computer reading the GB GD forum. I heard a hell of a racket in the kitchen. This wasn't one of those bumps in the night that everybody hears from time to time. This was genuine clanging and banging.

I asked my wife if that was her making a racket in the kitchen. She said no, she had been asleep. I told her I generally don't go armed to take my pills, but I was going to make an exception.

I didn't find anything out of order more than usual in the kitchen, and the dog didn't see anything she thought was interesting enough to get her off her lazy butt, but she did growl.

Everything appears to be back to normal. This is one of those mysteries I usually solve by accident at a later date. I don't remember ever liking the answer.

I hope some critter hasn't found its way into the house.

I had a similar thing happen a while back. Turned out to be some empty ammo cans, popping. Made a hell of a racket in the middle of the night, though.

Sounds like someone accidentally booby trapped the frying pans iron skillets when they put them away.

Thanks for mentioning that. It very well might have been the toaster oven. I haven't used it since about 6:00 o'clock, but that could be it.

Scary isn't it, hearing something in the house. Three nights ago I got awaken about 2 am. Noise in the kitchen. Sounded like something rubbing hard and just racket. In my mind I pictured the back door being pried open. Then my Lab started barking. She never barks unless it is the brown truck UPS guy or a deer in the yard. She is raising hell and I know something is wrong. My heart rate goes considerably up, I grab the pistol, flashlight and head down the hall. Dog is standing at the end of the hall, her fur is up and teeth showing. I turn the corner and see nothing. No one is in the house. Flip on the dining room light and the dishwasher has got something screwed up inside making a noise that comes and goes. I shut the thing off, calm the dog down and go to bed. Well the dishwasher never runs at night. Somehow the wife wanted to run it at that time or as she put it, the timer must have messed up. She always runs the dishes after supper. Well she said it was after supper..

I have a cookie sheet that hits a certain heating up or cooling down will warp and pop very loud, if its in the oven and does it on the rack it sounds like an entire cabinet of dishes crashing down

this stuff happens to me too, hear a "crash" for no reason. just something falling down. happened with pots & pans, books, tools, etc

I do hear ghost stories. enough that I'm starting to believe them. neighbors had the kitchen faucet in the other room turn on by itself. other dude was with his sister in an abandoned house, she felt a hand pushing on her back when she was going down the steps. one time I heard a "click" from the kitchen, looked, and the light was on. I thought it was off.... stuff like that.

Anytime I feel threatened or hear a sound I don't recognize I take Biden's advice and I step out on the back porch and fire both barrels of my double barrel 12 ga. shotgun up in the air!

Hard to believe that he's only a heart beat away from being president of the USA...but even as stupid as he is I'd rather he be in charge than the idiot that's now the commander and thief.

The worst is when you are up late at night and the dog starts seriously growling at a closed door, outside or inside. Decisions decisions. Open it or just call the dog off and go to bed? Bwa ha ha.

Talked about this many times. Our house has a welcomed guess. It is Donna's mom, that passed away when Donna was nine. She use to talk to our son when he was a baby and I have seen her in our home several times. She will even turn out lights that we left on when we go to bed or shut a tv off when we are all upstairs. She is great and always welcomed here. I was scared of her at first, but now it is part of the norm. Been a few years since we have sensed her in the house, but once in a while, you can smell her perfume. Oakie

Here is a picture of her that hangs in our home
