Dead Bucks in Texas

I drove from San Antonio to Houston today. Within a few miles of Luling I saw, about 20 miles apart, 2 big 8 point bucks on the median, got hit by cars.
These were big beautiful bucks, would have gone over 200 pounds each, easy.
Big racks.

Nobody had dared to stop and saw the horns off.

I am under the impression it is illegal in Texas to mess with a dead deer on a highway.

Most states have bans on horn removal on road kills for safety reasons.

Between New Braunfels and Seguin, TX the other day was a nice buck that had been hit. In TX, it is legal to keep a roadkill deer as long as you notify the local Game Warden.

My sister lives there. She sees them all the time. When I was down there, she took me to a friends ranch. Those eight pointers I saw on the side of the road, looked like babies, compared to the bucks on his ranch. In NJ, a six is a trophy[V] They really do grow everything bigger in Texas[;)][^]
