Forgemonkey, got my new forge working

I made a table for it and a tool rack. I also installed a set of wheels on it to move around. I kept playing with the air flow until I got it just right. Flame not to high and nice even burn. Pictures do not show it running the right flame, but I just wanted to show you how it worked. It is perfect for my use. Someday I will build a bigger one if I really enjoy it and get into making bigger projects. Starting small and just making knives and my horse shoe art for now. I also need to order some different tongs. I made a set for railroad spikes out of a old pair that were broken. They work nice now. Hammers are a different story. I need to read up on the proper hammers and tools, but it is a proscess.Oakie

    Excellent !!!! [;)]

Are you sprinkling water on the coal around the parameter of your fire ????

This will keep your fire from spreading beyond the airflow and wasting coal/coke.

Look for a 2-3# straight or cross peen hammer that feels good in your hand and has good balance,,,,,,,,,,Iron City hammers are my favorite. They will have a star stamped on the side,,,,,

No on the water. Didn't know about that trick. The hammer info sounds good. I will check them out tomorrow. Thank you for your input[:)]. Oak

If you are coming in for NRA, I will make sure you get to meet my friend Ross Tyser... he is pretty handy with a hammer....

That is my plan. I am making my reservation probably this week. My dad is going to come with me. The two of us go to a lot of the NRA shows together.

Ed, I'll give him 6 months and he'll want a 'side draft' forge like mine,,,,,,,,[:D]

What do you mean six months, I want one now[^]. I can make that. I have the metal and skills to do it. I will have to look it up. I looked for your video on youtube and didn't see any. [?] Oak

Okay, that looked pretty simple to fab. Just basically a collection box with a "B" vent type flue and an exhaust fan of sorts. I have a six inch inline exhaust fan laying around that I can mount on the hood. This is probably more practical for me,since I want to use it in the shop and not have to wheel it outside. I was thinking about something like this when I started and was looking for a pre-built forge, but thought it would suck out the flame or use up too much coal. Like I said, baby steps.

Yeah, those two are men alright, not only do they melt and shape it, they eat it too. So much for your gourmet cooking...

No, no,,,,,,,,no fan needed or wanted,,,,,,,,,,,if you decide to build one you need to incorporate a slack tub at the end,,,,,,,you'll have to find/buy a tuyere (fire pot) with a clinker breaker, etc,,,,,,,,if you're going to do it (in the future) you might as well do it correctly,,,,,,,,don't get the cart ahead of the horse,,,,,,,[;)]

Okay, thanks. I looked at the sites you posted too. Thank you very much. Right now, This is just a hobby, but hopefully I can make enough stuff to sell at craft fairs and whatnot. I am enjoying it. I like to work with metal and wood. It keeps my mind active, since i don't watch TV or just lay around the house. Pop just called this morning from Texas, seems he ripped off his running board down there and needs me to fab a new bracket and weld it. This is the stuff I enjoy . Oak
