A lot don't check, and also a lot don't bother acknowledging whether they received the item or not. I used to have giveaways on a regular basis, but got sick of the above behavior and quit.

I sometimes enter giveaways, and will check on them as long as they stay on the first two pages. After that, well, out of sight, out of mind.

I don't enter giveaways just because I want free stuff; I only enter if the giveaway is for something I can put to use. Therefore, I'll follow it through the announcement of the winner(s).

When I hold a giveaway, the winner has 24 hours to respond. At 24 hours and 1 second a new winner will be announced if necessary! [:D]

I think I've only entered 3 so far, but I've given away an RCBS press, some chile, a knife or two, a rare Challenge Coin, a book, brass, and some other stuff.
I'll be doing one soon for 8,000 posts, so keep an eye out!

I have entered only one. The one Pwillie had.

Don't plan on entering any more.

I entered a few when I first joined this site, but the last one I entered was for the M1 Mark C gave away. I had observed the fore mentioned problems on some GAWs(not Mark's for sure) and decided for those reasons I would never have a GAW. Figured if I was never going to have one, it was kind of like cheating to enter GAWs to win.

What I find interesting are the members that must have BOTs that monitor the forum for giveaways. When they get an alert they swoop in and enter a giveaway. They typically have been members for a fairly long time, but have a low post count and the giveaway might be the only thread they've responded to in months; the giveaway being their only "Recent Topic". When you look at their archived posts in General Discussion, the page is filled with giveaway threads!

I look at a lot of my entries for my giveaways and you are 100 % correct.
