Damn, Another Census Survey?????

I was randomly selected to fill out a more detailed census survey yesterday. Now they are asking personal questions that I prefer not to answer. Things like how much land I own, do I own a stove, cell phone, how I heat my home, how much money I make, when I served in the armed forces, how many vehicles I own, my education, if I have medical insurance, how much my mortgage payment is, and many more personal questions. It also came along with a letter stating I MUST fill out all of this by law. The only thing is, They didn't show any link where I can read the law. I may have to claim this form must have got lost in the mail.

I got one of those a while back. It mysteriously landed in the fireplace. So far no repercussions...

We get crap in the mail that "Looks" so official, only to turn out to be some company fishing for information , one of them is the "Important Social Security Update"

Do not leave the spaces blank!

Fill in the answer, "I am not sure".

You have complied with the law by supplying an answer, it is not your problem they don't like it.

Personally, i'd use it for the bottom of my birdcage since I already provided the number, sex and ages of those residing in my household for the recent census.

Constitutional compliance has been achieved at the el-tee household, until the next one in 2020.

What's truly comical is the charade that they don't already have that info.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

so what can they do to you if you refuse to provide the info? I mean seriously, talk about an invasion of privacy...
I got about three of those and follow up calls to boot. I told them I was dead..

No matter what these clowns tell you, IT IS NOT THE LAW.

Your government likes to know what their cattle taste like before they have you slaughtered.

Any and all information can and WILL BE used against you.

But if you have nothing to hide, you should have no fear of filling the form out and sending it back.

Personally I consider this the mail equivalent of some stranger on the phone calling me to tell me I missed jury duty, and unless I give them all sorts of information they should already have, they will put a warrant out for my arrest.

    Exactly.

Just fill in something in each blank. Doesn't matter what it is. You have filled it out and that's that.

I do not believe anyone is under any legal obligation to complete and submit any such "survey".

I can not picture myself complying with that survey. See no benefit to oneself for doing so. [:0] [V] [:(] [:(!] [;)]

This sounds like the same long form I got shortly after the regular census last year.

Google American Community Survey and you will see a lot of conversation about this.

    It goes something like this.

    1. They will send the form and request by mail a couple of times.

    If you do not respond:

    2. The will call you for about a month.

If you tell them you will not participate:

    3. They will start showing up at your home.

I told them on the phone mulitple times that I refuse to give them that information. After a month of that, they came to the house.

It was a rainy cold day and I made the guy stand out under my porch entry while I told him that I was not going to participate. He said that an answer of "decline to answer" was legitimate to each question. I told him to put that answer down for each question.

He proceded to go through each question trying to get me to participate. I told him that he had my answer to each question. He proceded to file through the questions on his laptop entering "decline to answer" by himself. He occasionally asked if I would mind answering a question to which I replied "no".

Once he finished with me, I asked if it was necessary to go through all this for my wife. He said yes. I said "the answers were the same as mine, Have a nice day".

He was courteous, as was I, throughout and said that would be the end of it.

The long and short of it is that they will not penilize you for not participating but may bug you for a while.

I got one in '10, too. Shredded the first one, simply threw away the 2nd. Then the phone calls, "Unknown Name", so didn't answer the first 3-4. I finally got ticked off enough to answer and told the nice lady that under no threat of penalty would I answer the questions. She said someone would come to my home to interview me. I told her they would be ignored, and if they attempted to enter my home uninvited, the coroner would be contacted. No one showed.[:D]
If I ever get another one, I'm going to save it.
