If I have time to run a load ladder before rifle season, I will let you know. I just had a MK V action barreled in 257wthby

I have an old Mark V that was rebarrelled by CP Donnelly with a 28" minimum internal measurements. It doesn't work well with factory ammo due to short throat, but with considerably less powder I get 3400fps with 120 gr bullets. I prefer it for those times when hunting will consist of a lot of sitting and glassing with the most likely shots being on the far side of 300 yards. For those situations it is hard to find anything better. Since we are limited, unless lucky in the draw, to spike elk, it is suitable for deer and elk.

Tell me about your "German" rifle! My 257 is a Winchester model 70 with a "Boss" and a Hart barrel 26 inc.. Zero is 200 yds,and I only shoot Weatherby factory loads(made by Norma)117 gr. BT.It is by far my most favorite rifle. When you hit a deer, its like a lightning bolt!

I had one built on a P17 action that gave me my longest first shot coyote kill. Unfortunately, the action was flawed and blew up almost killing me. I now have a Vanguard that I use for long range deer stands. Killed a big 11 point last season at 385. Hold on the brown, one shot, and down. A couple of years ago, I killed 3 does in 5 minutes from the same stand where I shot the 11 point last year using the 257. This stand is perfect for the capabilities of the 257 since it's basically in the middle of 160 acres giving shots up to 550 yards inside my fences.
I'm shooting 115 Nosler BT loaded with 7828 (ran out of AA3100). I think the velocity is about 3350-3400 out of the 24" barrel according to my Chrony.

Very interesting...I have looked at a Blaser in 257,but just can't justify another 5 grand rifle..I have a Swarovski scope on my Winchester, which originally was a 7mm mag...The Swarovski is 1 4x16x50 TDS,and it works real well out to 500yds.. I like the old Weatherby's that were made in Europe, don't care for the new stuff...Sure love Roy's cartridges..

Don't know what to say. It has beautiful wood and that deep blue that weatherby's are known for. I use the weatherby 100 grain soft points for deer and the 87 grain for woodchucks. I have alot of different cal. guns to choose from but this one is by far the flattest shooting that I have.

I keep it right in front of my gun safe as its a true, go to gun. It sits right next to my other big gun, a weatherby accumark in .340 for the bigger stuff.
