Trade Glock 17 for SIG P226?

edited November 2004 in General Discussion
Should I trade my 3rd generation Glock 17 for a two tone SIG P226(9mm)

My Glock is in excellent shape with very minor wear to the slide.

The SIG P226 has very minor nicks and dings to the frame, the finish is worn very little, and theres a little rust to the grip screws...but thats it.

Im trying to decide as soon as I can since other customers where interested in it as well.

Sound like a good trade?

Heres my Glock 17.

Ive shot Glocks, 1911s, and Berettas, but never SIGs. So I dont know how good I would shoot the SIG as compared to the Glock.

He said he would like to see the condition of my Glock. If he likes the condition its a straight across trade. If he doest, Ill have to throw in a little extra cash.

    Ive seen it in person.

I took the slide off, look at the bore and the other internals and I didnt see anyother rust, everything looked good. But I really didnt do a detailed field strip. The only rust I saw was on the screws.

I wouldn't trade. The rust is the real killer, especially if the other guy wants you to kick in some cash along with the glock. Sig is a better gun, but you could sell your glock and get a factory certified pre-owned P229 with a 1 year warantee.

I think the reliability of both guns are about the same.(I consider them among the best)But the Sig P-226,and 229 has always had the best appearence to me among all manufactures. For that reason along I would prefer the Sig.Good Luck!!

Take it to a range and shot it. The only person that can tell is you.

The grip screws rust on all of them if not cleaned and oiled. It can be cleaned of rust easy. If not SIG will send you a set for $18.00.

Use the rusted screws to your advantage, If he try's to ask for some cash. If you change them out yourself, Get the right size screw driver for them.

I love my glock but sigs are real nice, I wish I shot both before buying the glock. I would go with chapps, you could get a police trade-in for cheap and they are in probably almost or as good of shape as your glock is.

It is strickly a personal thing, but I own both 17 and a 226. I much prefer the 226. I have always been able to shoot the SIG better.

Would you trade a Chevy for a Cadillac, or a Ford for a Lincoln?

The SIG is a much better quality gun, but keep the one you are more comfortable shooting, and the one you shoot best with. The SIG may be a better gun, but if your not comfortable with it or it doesn't fit you hand, it's not a better gun for you.

I don't know why anyone would trade their SIG for a Glock. I'd look it over real close. Also, do you know the other person? No chance its stolen?

If everything is on the up and up; Sig not stolen, Then Yes...In a Heart Beat. But thats coming from someone who doesn't care a whole lot for Glocks.

I prefer my sig 226 to just about anything else but as mentioned before as long as the wear is comparable then go for the sig, your getting a good deal.another thing to consider, is what kind of sights are being traded if your glock has night sights and the sig doesnt the deal may not be so sweet, but if it is the other way around then its a better deal still

How new to you is that Glock?
How much did ya pay for it?
    How many mags you got?
How many hicap mags you got?
How many hicaps come with the Sig?
    How big are your hands?

Sigs are pretty chunky in the hand. Also Sig mags are more expensive than Glock mags.

Go shoot a Sig before you trade. I have 1911s, HK, Glock, and Sig. My sweet P220 ST is in the safe most of the time when I get range time. My 1911 is my primary, followed by my Glock. The Sig is great and reliable gun but I just have not acquired the taste for them yet. I am sure one day I will put in the time to do so. If your Glock is your primary sidearm and it is what you shoot best, why trade it away?

I've got a Glock 17, a Sig 226, and 2 Sig 229's when I go shooting........ I grab the Sigs. I prefer them to the Glock.

I love my glocks as most of you know, but I have enough of them to trade for a Sig anyday. Take the Sig, and buy another glock.
