Israel Maldonado, 30, of Bath Street was indicted Tuesday. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in a federal prison. The indictment is fallout from Operation Cease Fire, a push by the U.S. attorney's office, the Philadelphia district attorney's office, Philadelphia police and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to identify and prosecute people believed to be illegal gun suppliers. According to the indictment, Maldonado knowingly sold firearms without a license between July 9 and Aug. 9. Most of the guns were 9mm semi-automatic pistols, according to the indictment, which demands that Maldonado forfeit 34 handguns that he owned. If convicted, he faces a $1.5 million fine and three years of supervised release. Thursday, September 6, 2001

Something contradictory here. In one sentence he faces 30 years in the slam, and later he gets a fine and probation. Pee poor reporting.

Are private, person to person sales illegal in Philadelphia?

Making no judgments, but if the charges are true this is just the sort of gun-law violation that OUGHT to be prosecuted. We do our cause no good by pretending otherwise.[This message has been edited by obelix (edited 09-11-2001).]

Gotta' agree with Obelix......Serial #'s filed off. DUH! This may be "technically" person to person selling but you'll never convince me that he didn't know what he was doing. You probably aren't going to convince a judge either. SLAMMER TIME!!!Mudge

I have to agree with obelix also. Filed off serial numbers are a felony period, even if you are keeping the gun. If the guy was selling 30 guns a month he was engaged in "the business of". Sorry but this only shows, or at least indicates, that not all of us gun owners are really on the side of the angels.
