Brownells? Lawsuit Kills NRA Endowment

I am sure most of you are aware of this legal conflict between these two repected companies. In the past, I have done business with both, and was treated well.
Terrible shame I think, for firearm related companies like this to be in conflict. Our shooting sports do not need bad press such as this.
Do you deal with these companies?
I respect everyone's opinion, pro or con on this topic.

I took the liberty of copying the following from Midway's site:
Check out this link as this is a long news release:

    May 17, 2002

    Brownellsr Lawsuit Kills
    NRA Endowment
The Brownellsr lawsuit (see Press Release below) has killed a new $500,000 NRA endowment that MidwayUSAr had planned to announce at this years NRA Show.

The Potterfield Family, all NRA Benefactor members, own MidwayUSAr. They are great supporters of the NRA and may be best known for starting NRA "Round-Up" and Friends of NRA.

During 1999 and 2000, MidwayUSA created two special educational endowments within the NRA Foundation (Keystone and First Shot), funding them with cash and pledges totaling one million dollars.

This year MidwayUSAr planned to create a special Gunsmithing Endowment, with cash and pledges totaling $500,000. Unfortunately creating that endowment is not possible this year, because of the costs of defending the Company from the Brownellsr lawsuit, which has already exceeded $40,000.

I know this about Midway...they bought out and looted the oldest stock company in America..then put it on the auction block.Donating money to the NRA means nothing to me..except as a complete waste of resources, better put in places that accept NO MORE COMPROMISES....such as JPFO,or GOA...

    God,Guts,& GunsHave we lost all 3 ??

Brownells is trying to state that they have sole rights to use horizontal publishing, not hardly. I read the release, Midway volenteered to go to a vertical format, Brownells wont drop the suit. Guess Midway is cutting into their biz to much. Lets see, buy from Brownells and pay as much in shipping as you did for the parts, or Midway and pay a reasonable rate, hmmmmmmm.

Let's see if I understand this. Midway is not going to set up their $500,000 endowment because it has cost them $40,000 to fight this law suit. This is just a LAME BS excuse by them to back out the deal. I've dealt with Midway since they started and the more I see of them lately the less I deal with them. And speaking of saving money on shiping, I guess you always order enough to meet the minimun order. If the part from Brownells is less than one pound you can request Priority Mail and that is less than Midway charges. If you order some fairly heavy stuff, barrels, etc, it still only costs $6.75! See what Midway charges. I think the lawsuit is stupid and as one fellow said, the only winners are the lawyers, however I'm with Brownells all the way!

I tend to prefer Brownells to Midway, but the law suit seems rather stupid, as does Midway's backing out of a committement.

In Midway's defense, I would assume the withdrawal involves not just the fact that it has cost $40,000.00, but that it isn't over yet. Lawyer bills still go on, and you might lose and have to pay.

I have done some business with these people and have always been treated fairly.

I just place an order with Midway, the phones are closed today, so I had to use their web site, it sucks bad, hard to navigate. When I got to the end, it asks if you want to round up for the NRA, I thought hell no!, you're not even giving anymore, whats up with that??

    Ryan,
I think they are not going to establish the new endowment. I don't think they are going to stop the "Roundup".

Oh, Ok, well I just placed an order with Brownells for some stuff I couldnt get through Numrich, their web site isnt working worth a darn either. I got exactly what I've been looking for quite a while now. I guess I'm playing both sides of the fence, I dont really care as long as I can get what I need to get my guns the way I want them.

Midway used to be good untill they started charging for shipping, at the time they SAID they would lower their prices, well that was B.S. I stoped buying from them, can get better prices from my local gun store, NOT MARTS. I hope they go down.....

I am not 100% sure of this, but I do not believe that Midway was the first to start the NRA roundup, I believe that honor would go to Conetrol Scope Mounts. Also, Brownells will ask you if you want to make a contribution to the NRA. I think the lawsuit is rather stupid, in time people will realize that Brownell's offers superior products and has a knowledgable tech staff on hand to answer questions. They will get the business in time.
