If you are an FFL yes; however, under no circumstances can anyone ship ammo through the USPS. Must use a common carrier such as UPS or FedEx.

No ammo in the mail. You can mail a LONG gun TO a FFL holder (and you do not need to BE a FFL holder to send it), but only DEALERS and MANUFACTURERS can mail a handgun. See the USPS regs. They are online at USPS.com

If your shipping a long gun they shouldn't ask for anything. Take the package in, take the bolt out or lock it back in some way. Ship it, put insurance on it and keep your mouth shut and you won't have any problems.

Just making sure other people do it that way!

You have to declare it is a firearm no matter who you use, USPS has a form you have to fill out, UPS you put it on you bill of lading.

Yes, you can utilize your dealer's license, but the dealer must provide you with a signed copy of this form

    http://www.usps.com/forms/_pdf/ps1508.pdf

to give to the post office.

I had to sell off a good chunk of my collection to pay taxes this year. My dealer charged me $10 per handgun to run them through his books; I did all the packing and paid the PO directly for the postage.

For rifles or shotguns my PO wants a written statement from me that the gun has a legal barrel length, that there is no ammo in the package, and that the addressee is an FFL holder.
I used to recruit for the NRA until they sold us down the river (again!) in Heller v. DC. See my auctions (if any) under username henryreilly

The USPS form is only used by dealears and/or manufacturers mailing handguns.

EOD is correct. Form 1508 is used only by dealers and manufacturers, and only for RESTRICTED mailing (handguns). You DO need to DECLARE that the shipment is a firearm, and postmaster MAY wish to inspect that it is UNLOADED. Does NOT have to be disassembled. PS You may MAIL a long gun to yourself, without going thru a FFL holder. Again, read the postal regs.

I stand corrected, you still need to declare it to the carrier though.

Carrier may not ask if it is a firearm. Read the regs

I could not begin to guess how many "golf clubs" have been declared. The real bite is that it costs $45-$60 to send a hand gun via UPS and return costs via USPS are under $15.

There is nothing in the regs that says they cannot ask. The reg says they cannot mark the box indicating that there is a firearm inside.

    ...and for international mailings.

DO NOT ship USPS any longer is my opinion. Right now it is nearly 90 days since I purchased handgun on gunbroker, and the Seller's FFL has seen that handgun reversed (3) times by USPS deliverer on my end, and local Post Office will not even give reason nor tell us who delivery person was.

1st time we all figured it was some mistake as USPS is known to be very efficient government operation... LOL

2nd time we (my FFL) gets blamed from Seller that he refused receipt of this handgun (which is a bold faced lie), yet my FFL stated there never were and calls, labels, stickers or other left from USPS, and has UPS & FedEx deliveries all the time with no problems. This FFL I have transacted (3) additional gun purchases since January 2021 and no problems, but all those were shipped UPS or FedEx from those sellers..

3rd time now (last week) this same Colt 45 handgun we get informed was just received back at the Seller's FFL, and all parties talking FFL to FFL, are so damn upset that this is more than coincidence now going on. NEVER once was any note, sticker, label or other EVER been at my FFL dealer's office and yet, the Postal Delivery person reverses the gun back to the Seller's FFL again...???

We have spoke to Seller's FFL directly as has my own receiving FFL here in NC, and this is a growing problem across America it seems, where a sort of "purposeful delay gun control" measure is/has been going on by certain individuals working for the US Postal Service and it needs to be investigated! We are thinking of contacting National Media now to our demise.

FYI- my neighbor is Postmaster for an office in another area. He was asked to go before Congress over a year ago to talk about cost saving measures, and he submitted a program where he could save US Taxpayers $2 Billion annually at the USPS if those principles were implemented, mainly by being more efficient. Fast-forward to today and a new Administration, he now keeps a low profile in fear of losing his job being a gun owner himself and new internal policies Biden Admin is pushing everywhere...

I bought a book off of Amazon last month. A used book for four bucks. Turned out it was being sold by Goodwill Stores in Nashville Tennessee.

They put it in the US Mail on March 30. I got it on the 27 of April.

Four weeks to go from Nashville Tn to Marshall NC. I could walk that distance in half that time. Something is bad wrong with the post office.
