Cozy Inn in Salina Ks is good and you eat them outside not in your car unless you want a Very Strong Pungent onion smell. Buy them buy the bag and you have them their way and NO cheese or fries.

Those "Best ... in all 50 States" articles are apparently the number one rage on the internet right now. I can hardly open a Comcast, MSN, or other main page without seeing one or more. Ridiculous.

I very strongly suspect that anybody can be #1 if they pass enough cash under the table.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

There is a place called Chucks 20 miles from me that I would put up against any other burger in the state. Greasy spoon all the way baby!

Most of the time I laugh at lists like that. This one, at least for Montana, is dead on. If you haven't had a hamburger at Naps, you truly haven't lived.[^][:)]

    Naps Grill

    Hamilton

    The burger: Bacon cheeseburger
Picking the best burger in a state known for its beef it a pretty tough task, especially considering you can get a good burger at pretty much any roadside stand - all while looking at your meal's cousins grazing across the street. But the Bitterroot Valley's Naps ranks up with the nation's best, offering a customizable burger that starts with a 12oz patty of locally farmed beef that would be good enough on its own, but gets even better when stacked with bacon, grilled onions, and a pile of tender mushrooms. Naps proves that even a place in a town of 4,500 people can go up against anything in a big city.

It was in the form of a question, so probably not.
However, the choice of Johnson's in Siler City, NC is a good one.
It is one of my favorites for sure. Especially if you remember what a burger tasted like in the 50s. Like they said, he only opens about four hours, or until he runs out of hamburger for that day.
Each patty is made when ordered, right in front of you. The place is in what looks like an old service station, very small, and full when he's open. Made it there a few times, and never disappointed.
Personally, I'd put it first or second on my list, along with Chargrill in Raleigh.[8D]

Think these lists give the site a MUCH larger "hit" count,, = more ad dollars.

Maybe I'd try the Texas Winner but,, the location is not mentioned ??? WTH !! Not hard to look up,, Dallas.
    http://www.thegraperestaurant.com/
Maybe if they'd paid more,, the article would have mentioned HINT: Dallas.

Really, another miss for CA, 4505 Burgers in Frisco is nothing but a over priced underperforming tourist trap, not to mention that they only have 3.5 Stars on Yelp. Every time there is a report about the best anything in CA it comes from some dump in Frisco.

Never even heard of the places in WA, OR, or ID. Can't be that good. Heck the place in WA is in Bellevue not too far from where I lived. If it doesn't have any kind of reputation locally, it can't be any good.

The one from here is about 10 miles from my house but I have never been there. The Food Network how ever was. Sollys uses about a 1/2 pound of butter for every burger they make. The burger even comes with a pool of butter on the plate its served on.

Back 40 in Klamath Falls OR. They serve a half lb cheese burger and the best onion rings that I have ever eaten. If you ever go through there it is worth a try. Also ask them for a to go box[:)]

Spot on, Rocky. I will say The Workingman's Friend in Indy is great. It was on the way between my job at Allison Gas Turbine and my car lot. I would stop by there frequently. It looks like just neighborhood bar (which it is) - and not that great of a neighbor hood at that. I need to go back.

Yeah, there are some good local burger places, but, unless you know where the beef is from, who grinds it, & the % of fat, you will probably end up eating far more fat than you wanted to.

I have inspected hundreds of restaurants. Most chain restaurants sell only 80/20 burgers; i.e., 80% meat & 20% fat. That's a pretty greasy burger. Most of the fast food chains sell frozen burgers, sourced from around the world. The "freshly made" burger chains usually buy their ground beef in huge "salami" rolls from 1 of a few large US processors who ship it all over the country.

I've heard that there is a West Coast burger chain that grinds their own meat, but I'm not familiar with it.

If you are lucky, you live near a specialty restaurant that buys local beef, &, hopefully, grinds it fresh & lean. Otherwise, grinding your own beef may be worth the effort.

I've eaten burgers in all 57 states and the best one I've ever had was at Callaway Garden's Vineyard Green Restaurant in Pine Mountain, GA. It's called the Classic Angus Burger and it must weigh 3 pounds with the best ground beef that's ever graced a bun. It's pricy at $12 bucks but I'd pay twice that if I had to. It's 59 miles from our house to the restaurant and we go there about once a month to eat and drive the scenic road through F.D. Roosevelt State Park.

The best burger I ever ate was in St Pete Florida. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the place but it was just a small simple hole in the wall type of joint. I have no idea how they seasoned it but one could just eat it straight off the grill with nothing on it and be in heaven. One of those and a frosty chocolate shake....YUM YUM!!!

The Oregon one should be second place. The Jumbo at the Helvetia Tavern is a good burger, but it doesn't win out over the Special at Stanich's Ten til One. 47th and NE Fremont.

The special is two big patties, cheese, fried onions, bacon, Canadian bacon, lettuce, tomato, and a fried egg with a special sauce. The secret is once you pick it up, don't set it down. You will never corral it again.

If you are ever in PDX, The Special is worth a stop.

Well, this thread got me to wanting another one of those big burgers at Callaway Garden's so we made a trip to Pine Mountain, GA this afternoon to get a couple. They should put some cots out in the lobby for people to lay down on after they eat.[:)]

Those best lists are very popular these days, they get lots of views and generate lots of ad revenue. There are good burger joints coast to coast that will never make these fancy lists. I know where that one in Atlanta is but there are 50 better places closer than going downtown and waiting for an hour and half to get a table. Yonah Burger up between Cleveland and Helen makes a mean burger and awesome shakes.

The best burger is an Irish pub up the street. Fresh meat, clean kitchen. Perfect char.

Along with well-done fries sprinkled with Sarson's Vinegar. And a Guinness.

I worked at a hamburger place, the Pac-a- Burger in Beaumont, Texas when I was a kid. I worked there on an off from age nine to fifteen, and performed every function of the business. That said, I have never eaten a better burger than we made there. Many of the better eateries in Beaumont would have us prepare their hamburger meat for them. I prepared that meat, and I delivered it as well. Now, don't get me wrong, I have had one other hamburger that might rival a Pac-a-Burger. It was served up at another Beaumont eatery at a pool hall and gambling joint. Since then I have had some great hamburgers hither and yon, but none that was better than a Pac-a-Burger.

Once when the wife and I were on a genealogy mission in Jackson County, Alabama, a very nice lady at the court house archives in Scottsboro told me about an out of the way joint that served up a fantastic hamburger. This was back in 2004, and I just now Googled up the place to see if it was still in business, and it is! So, if you're a hamburger lover and find yourself anywhere near Scottsboro, take some time out of your day and make a run north of there to Pikeville Store N Deli for some great hamburger fixins - you'll be happy that you did:

I'm having a brain fart and simply can't remember the name. I do remember that they were about an inch or so thick and formed to fit on a toasted Hogie roll. They had their own special seasoning that was
sinfully delicious. You didn't need onions, pickles, cheese. mustard, ketchup, nothing to flavor it up. It was simply that good right off the grill!!! That burger with a real ice cream shake was the cat's meow.
