a lot of farmers and scrappers in the area just too big of hurry and they bounce out

last great find a Frito lays tuck came by a few years ago we live on a small hill ( or bump to you fellows use to hills ) any way I was mowing grass his back doors were open ( forgot to close them ) as he came up over the rise the stack next to the door bounced out 4 boxes of assorted potato chips and Carmel corn [:D] for my late night snacks

I used to drive 300-400 miles a day when I was working as a sales contractor so I would find all sorts of good things, never a ladder that is a really good find, but I have found:

    150 foot garden hose, new
    100 foot extension cord
    couple 5 gallon buckets
3 gal and 5 gal gas cans
    several screw drivers
    rubber mallet
    framing and finish hammers
several tie down straps and bungee cords
both large and small come alongs

What else are you going to do while sitting in traffic but look into the side of the road to see if their is anything worth while.

I trapped dozens of muskrats out of ice-covered ditches as a boy. A good one was worth $4 - serious money back then.

Best thing I ever found in a ditch was myself still alive, hanging upside down by my seat belt with the truck filling up with water.

Flipped a 1970 Ranchero end over end before landing in a muddy creek on FM 517 near Alvin Texas.

Water was only about 8" deep, but I didn't know that at first.

Ex-wife was in the other truck and saw my lights leave the road. She came back and found me on the road. Left the Ranchero there and went home.

Came back next day and found the a County Sheriff there on the scene. He was pissed. He had gone down to the truck to see if anyone was in it and was covered in mud. He was in his Sunday uniform.

Wrecker rolled it back on all fours and pulled truck out. I checked the oil added a quart and drove it home. Bumpers destroyed, roof caved in, punctured gas tank, smelled like dead crawdads and suprisingly no broken glass. Sold it to my neighbor across the street for want the tickets were going to cost. $150.00 He drove it for another two years doing handyman work.

Since then always wear the seat belt.

I woke up on the side of the road once with a broken neck, compound broken left femur and left wrist. I tried to stand up but my left leg was turned around backward. A witness came up and asked "are you OK", I said hell no and then went into shock. Woke up many hours later. I was on my city owned motor and it was totaled.

Found a like new Buck knife and sheath along the road one day. That was the best find. Some porno magazine when I was about 11 was interesting, and like some others, I flipped a motorcycle end for end at 55mph and woke up in the ditch with a broken collar bone and some other beat up area's .

My dad was on a deer lease and found several things over the years. A 2-wheel cart that fell off a beer truck, number of oil field pipe fittings and best of all, a Winchester 30/30. Turned it in to the sheriff and nobody claimed it. Sheriff later told him he had a new rifle.

Middle of nowhere at a rural x-roads stop sign. Came to a stop, looked out my window and there laid a $10 bill on the road, opened my door and picked it up. Lunch for several days.[:D] (this was 1965, haven't found anything since)

L.C.Smith 12 ga. This in the mid 60's. The original Ithaca Gun restored this one and a sister Elcee in the 80's. Both sit in quiet retirement in as-new condition.

was pulling up the ramp to the interstate and saw a plastic case, looked like pistol case on the burm. I stopped walked back and it was a snap on 3/8 socket set, I found all but 4-5 of them, american and metric, regular and deepwell. only took about 10 minutes wife wasn't happy, guess she had to use the bathroom, but I still have that set and use it a lot around the garage...

If it is in a ditch then about fifty water snakes. If it on the side of the road a bag of money.

A 2" receiver hitch insert with a 2 1/2" ball. Hit it with the riding mower and messed up the deck.[:(!]

Long ago on a freeway coming from work a 4 roll bundle of faced insulation. Gave it to my sister so BIL would use it their new home.

See a lot of stuff, besides the litter, along the freeway. Mostly 1 gallon gas cans.

before the rise of farming weed killers our road ditches growing up had wild strawberry plants along a 200 yard section. the sweetness of these wild ones had no equal in the commercial farms.

Once spotted a handle sticking up out of the grass. Pulled over and took a closer look. It was a Fishing Tackle box, fully stocked with plugs, spinner-baits, a filet knife and a nice casting reel. A little tangled up from it's fall, but undamaged. No identification. Still have it years later and have not used any of it yet.

You might want to smell that - before you drink it.

    It might have gone "bad".

My friend Henry and I were cruising along one evening back in 1965 just before dark on our motorcycles and found a naked girl crawling up on the road out of a ditch. We stopped and I recognized her, she was a girl that was known to walk the roads in that part of the country in order to get picked up by men. She was so drunk that she couldn't stand up. We flagged down a car and one of the women in the car knew who she was and said they'd take her home. We later found out that some drunk had picked her up and when he got tired of her he just kicked her out of the car and left her. It was pretty sad. She was pretty young and she was skin and bones. It was less than a year after that when I heard that she had died.

A buddy and I had just got done with a morning deer hunt and were headed in separate vehicles to go butcher some hogs.
Right before the turn off I noticed a marine battery box lid on the side of the road.
I called him and told him to pick it up.
He did and it was like brand new.
Later that day when we started to mix the sausage, we fired up the grill to cook some very fresh pork steaks.
Not having anything to serve them on, I lined the road treasure with freezer paper and turned it into a serving tray. [:D]
His comment, "I guess I've seen it all now."

Kbar knife, while changing a tire. [:)] Still have it.

I almost forgot the best thing. I found MY hunting Licenses. They must have fell off my back while I was leaving the truck. It snowed and they lay there for weeks. I never noticed they were gone. Went winter bow hunting and as I started walking into the woods, I saw something shiny sticking out of the snow. Damn, it was somebody's hunting Licenses. MINE[:o)] Thank god I found them.[:I][:I][:I]

Another kid and I found a gunny sack under a bridge that contained two lever action Winchester shotguns and two model 1906 Winchester .22s. There was also lot of personal papers including a marriage license. It was dumped stolen property from a small local gun dealer. He was so happy to get it all back he gave us each a half box of .410 shotgun shells.[:)]

I found a Lincoln battery operated grease gun still in the case sitting on the side of the road. Also found four brand new tires that fit my truck. Ran an ad in the newspaper both times looking for the owner.

I found an electric scooter chair.
Mom was not happy with me.
She said she told me to check it.
It fell of as I was turning onto the freeway and landed in the grass so no damage done.

..Too many hitch balls, gas cans and rubber straps to count.
..One 24 pack of (warm) beer.
    ..$120 in cash.
..A month ago, 20' of steel cable with hooks.
..THE BEST..In the 1980's, my neighbor found a Yamaha YZ 125 in his
waterway, just off the road. He gave it to me! I rode that thing to
near death, going through about eight pistons. Fast little bugger!
