Anyone from Seattle area?

Been watching "The Killing" on Netflix, almost done with season one, good show, has held my interest so far. Seattle looks like a depressing place to live if the scenes in the series are accurate. Rains every day, always overcast, not one scene has been shot in sunny conditions so far. Not sure if they filmed the series in Seattle but all of the exterior shots appear to be in and around the city. I have read that Washington State has the highest incidents of suicide and depression in the union..I can understand why after watching this show!

That pretty much describes it . Rain, wind and sleet today. Summer is generally the last week of July or first week of August.

    From Wikipedia:

Seattle's climate is usually described as oceanic or temperate marine, with mild, wet winters and warm, dry summers. Like much of the Pacific Northwest, according to the K?ppen climate classification it falls within a cool/mild wet winter, and dry-summer subtropical zone (Csb), with "cool"-summer Mediterranean characteristics.[63] Other climate classification systems, such as Trewartha, place it firmly in the Oceanic zone (Do), like much of Western Europe.[64]

Temperature extremes are moderated by the adjacent Puget Sound, greater Pacific Ocean, and Lake Washington. The region is largely denied Pacific storms by the Olympic Mountains and Arctic air by the Cascade Range. Despite being on the margin of the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains, the city has a reputation for frequent rain.[65] This reputation stems from the frequency of precipitation in the fall, winter, and spring. In an average year, at least 0.01 inches (0.25 mm) of precipitation falls on 152 days. It is cloudy 201 days out of the year and partly cloudy 93 days.[66] The location of official weather and climatic records, the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, is located about 19 km (12 miles) south of downtown in the city of SeaTac, and records more cloudy days and fewer partly cloudy days per year.[67] For this reason, official weather and climatic records may not accurately reflect the weather and climate conditions of the city proper.

At 37.41 inches (950 mm), the city receives less precipitation annually than Boston (43.70 in/1,110 mm), New York (49.92 in/1,268 mm), Washington, D.C. (39.67 in/1,008 mm), Atlanta (49.68 in/1,262 mm), and most cities on the Eastern Seaboard of the U.S. Yet, due to local variations in microclimate, Seattle proper receives significantly less precipitation than some other locations west of the Cascades. Around 80 mi (129 km) to the west, the Hoh Rain Forest in Olympic National Park on the western flank of the Olympic Mountains receives an annual average precipitation of 142 inches (3,610 mm). Sixty miles to the south of Seattle, the state capital Olympia, which is out of the Olympic Mountains' rain shadow, receives an annual average precipitation of 49.81 inches (1,270 mm).[68] The suburb of Bremerton, about 15 mi (24 km) to the southwest of downtown Seattle, receives 54.82 inches (1,390 mm) of precipitation annually.[68]

4 hours away, We are in what is called a high plains desert. It is very dry in the summer.

We have been over to Seattle a couple times and it seemed very nice and the weather was nice. Everything was very green and pretty. I was fond of the area and thought it was pretty nice.

I was there once my wife lived in the area. It does rain a lot. If you like the coast and rain it's all good. I do but not working in it. Depends on your life style I guess.

spent some time up there visiting my sister when she lived there. Lots of "drizzles" light misty rain you learn to ignore it and go on as usual

I grew up there (and now live in the "high plains desert" area).
I remember vividly one summer where it never rained for over a month! There were threats of water rationing and pleas to avoid washing cars and watering lawns.
But there's a reason it's nicknamed "The Evergreen State". It's because of the rain the other 11 months of the year.

I was stationed at Ft Lewis for a total of 11 years and I must say I got used to it. Its so green all the time and when the weather is nice its really nice.

The people in WA are really good folks once you get away from the weirdo's in the city. Seattle is full of some real strange agents. But the city is nice and there are some fun things to do there, great places to eat.

Actually the summers are pretty dry and sunny. There are rain shadow zones to the west and nw of Seattle caused by the Olympic mountains.

Rain in the season is often just a mist, I wear a brushpopper shirt and that is all I need. Maybe a hat.

It was raining like crazy over there on Wed. It is overcast a lot. I enjoyed living on that side of the state and miss some aspects of it....lots of fun things to do. Parts of Seattle are run down...like most large cities. But they do have a lot of nice areas. I have not seen that show so will have to check it out...maybe they filmed in the Rainier Beach section that is ghettofabulous lol.

I lived in Seattle for a time, when I was a kid. Winters, were the rainy season. We started cracking jokes when, one time, it rained for 40 days straight. The fog was the thickest I've ever seen. We lived in N. Queen Anne, and I walked 6 blocks to school. I learned to count and remember strides, so on the foggy mornings I could estimate when I was approaching the end of a particular block, so that I didn't walk off the curb and break my chin. Grass boundaries guided us, as we could only see ourselves to our chests. We later moved, to one County north. It was a perfect outdoors environment there, at the time, although the weather remained unchanged.

I grew up across the Puget Sound from Seattle and currently live in the Seattle area. If you grow up here and stay here you don't notice it the rain or grey skys at all. Weather is 40-50 degress for about 6 months straight. Doesn't rain every day, but to an outsider it probably feels like it. Sky is grey a lot, probably 90% of the time. In the summer, highs will reach near 95 to 100 for a day... week at the most. I've seen lows as low as 0 degrees F but usually winter temps don't ever drop below the teens. We had no snow here all winter long this year and it finally snowed today.

I recall one summer (1991 or there-abouts,) we had a day of 98 degrees with no clouds, followed the next day by one of the worst torrential rainstorms I can recall. Mixed with hail and temps hovering in the mid 30's. This was in July. I think my buddy still has it on film![:D]

I moved over to the East side of the state and Idaho about 20 years ago (and only moved back about 3 years ago). The weather there ruined me for the weather here. Mostly blue sky there, no where near as much rain, but it's the persistent overcast sky that gets me now. I can't wait to move back!

Winter, the Days are (Sorta) Light from about 0900 only till about 1600.

PRO: There are actually FOUR seasons here. Spring lasts longer, and Hits like a Hammer! Summer is Shorter, but not too Hot. Fall lasts and lasts. Winter is not too bad if you are near Water (Much of the State). Summer Days Last and Last! 0430 - 2230.

FIFY. If you want four seasons in this state, ya gotta go east of the Cascades.

Perfect weather period, if you ask me. Nice amounts of winter snow. Sometimes rainy but nice springs where everything greens up. Hot and dry summers (almost no humidity to speak of) yet cool in the evening. Cool, refreshing fall with beautiful colors perfect for hunting. And beautiful sunrises and sunsets 365!

I couldn't handle it up there with all the grey skies for weeks on end. Would be a big change for someone that has lived in the 'Sunshine' state most of their life.

Half of the shows on HGTV must be shot around there as I see the 'space needle' a lot.
Unless I'm wrong and that is the CN tower in Toronto.

Doesn't look like it to me, as I spent a number of months in Toronto as a young person.

Maybe,.....who knows, but I doubt it.
I'm not a big city person. I hate crowds and traffic by and large.

That's why I moved out of S. Florida in 1991.
Where I live now, the entire county has a population a bit over 300K, and it is a pretty large county.

There is no way in heck I could live in Seattle though.
Freako/Lib central from what I have seen. I'm not as tolerant as you![:D]

I have never set foot in Washington state, although I got an invite from Bert H a number of years ago to visit Bremerton.
