Makayla got moved up today in softball.[:D]

Instead of playing for the Jr. high school team she is going to be the starting catcher for the high school Jr. Varsity team.[:D][:D][:D][:D]

I was hesitant to allow this move at first as I didn't want her to move up and end up sitting on the bench durring the games but the after talking to the high school coach he assured me that she would be the starting catcher and would play every inning of every game as she is the best catcher that they have.[:D][:D][:D][:D]

Good for you Dude. My daughter has the ability, but doesn't like the six day a week practice schedule. To think I've been throwing her balls for over ten years and now when she can really "capitalize " on it..kinda bothers me.

One very quick question, is she a 9th grader or higher or eighth grader or lower? I can't remember if you mentioned this any your previous posting.

Reason I ask is because in some states the governing atletic body allows only four seasons of play per student, so if she is an eighth grader she may lose a year of eligibility to play at the high school level down the road.

Good for her if it's not an issue. I would double check with the state athletic board if it might be an issue. What is good for the school isn't always good for the student.

It is not an issue here in SC as far as years of play in high school ball. She is currently in the 8th grade though.

Has she surpassed the age of eligibility for the 8th grade team? SC actually has a pretty well defined constitution for high school athletics.

    No she hasn't.

I talked pretty extensively with the coach about all of this and softball has a little different guidelines than many of the other high school sports and leans more towards the ASA (American Softball Assc.) softball rules. Makayla as a 13yo. is eligible to play Jr. high ball and above. By the guidelines a player is eligible to play at a higher level at any time but under no sucumstances is a player allowed to play at a lower lever than thier age allows.

Once the coach told me that SC schools go by the ASA alot of my questions were taken care of because Makayla has been playing in ASA ball for several years and I have helped coach some of those years and have got a pretty good understanding of ASA rules.

Talking to the coach and getting reassurance that she is ok to play doesn't mean that she won't lose eligibility to play in her 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade years. I would call the state athletic association for clarification.

He may be putting his team's interest above what is best for her. If it were me I would check just to make sure. Better to be safe than sorry two or three years from now.

Congrats to her GRD, don't forget to let her be a kid and have fun. Being advanced is great, but take her health, maturity and future in account as well. Hopefully she has an awesome career, and does not get overwhelmed and and faces burnout down the road.

Congratulations to you and your daughter! It's always good to see kids enjoying such a fun game. Likewise, it's good to know that you have given a lot of your time and effort in helping her and a lot of other kids learn how to play! What a great combination.
