Truly a gem..
A friend of mine called me a couple of years ago and said, "I think I found a stock for those guns you collect at a garage sale". He gave a dollar for it and it was unbroken and near pristine.[:0] He wouldn't even take a dollar for it, just gave it to me.[^]
Now, is the Model 90 and Model 1890 the same?
Yes, they are.
But it looks like it was outside the barn most of its life.
There is really nothing nice about it. A shame.
I don't think I could give it away.
We used to sell those for $75-$175 for a really nice one in the 70s at the LGS my parents had.
I gave my step sister about 20 of them to settle part of the estate
I am sure she sold them for crack
She is still a *[:(!]
Stock refinished or no ?
The finish on the forearm looks original, and I'm "thinking" the butt stock is original as well, although the metal appears to be a bit higher than the wood in the one picture showing the upper tang. The wood to metal fit on the 1890/90 ordinarily did not show very proud. Take for example the buttplate to wood fit. It shows most proud with a bit here and there that might be even, and some might a hair lower, which is very typical even in 98 & 99 percent guns. IMO, that gun is an excellent buy at the current bid!
They were not made for todays connoisseurs
That word took me a while to spell dammit
Remember these were cheapassed farm guns 100 yrs ago

[:)] Actually, this model was very expensive back in its day, due to the great deal of craftsmanship involved in its production including material.
Both the stock and forearm have been refinished, but it was done a long time ago.
That was another thought that I had, and seeing that if that's the case, it's so old, the change to the value would be minimal.
