What is a NIB remington 1187 sp worth? It has a remchoke slug barrel w/ open sights, 3 inch chamber, nice wood stocks, matte finish, rifled choke tube, and box & papers. All looks nice. Was traded in to a local gun shop. thanks for any help. also, would this be ok for turkeys if i put a super full choke in it?

I am looking into by an Auto 12. The most reasonably priced and well recommended one I've come across is the 1187 SPS 12/26. I read alot about the Supermag (3.5") version having problems cycling 2.75" shells. Since I mostly hunt Upland and Turkey but would also like to shot clays with it, I was thinking of going with the 3" model. Does anyone have the 3" and does it hunt ok and is there any problems with 2.75 shells?
Thanks,

I was teaching the shotgun merit badge and as I stood next to a scout I thought something looked strange. It looked like the tip of the barrel was bulged . As I looked closer it was, and then I checked the second 1187 and found that that one had also had the tip of he barrel bulging but not as bad as the first one. I immediately pulled the guns off the line and shut down shotgun shooting.
What I found was so scary that it shook me up. I pulled the choke tube out of the first gun and found that one quarter of the tube was missing . What was occurring was that the choke tubes were larger than the barrel,so each shot was hitting a lip on the choke tube inside the barrel. I then pulled the choke tube in the second gun and found the beginnings of the same thing the tube was being worn away and causing a blockage in the barrel, there for causing the tip of the barrel to bulge. The scary thing is that had one large piece of the choke tube come loose the gun would have exploded due to a blocked barrel.
I called Remington and spoke with someone in quality control and told him what I found. He told me that they knew about this and it was caused by the choke tubes being manufactured by one company and the barrels by another company and the tubes did not match the barrels. THE TUBES WERE LARGER THAN THE INSIDE OF THE BARREL,AND FIRING THE GUN CAUSED THE BARREL TO BULGE AND THEN EXPLODE IF IT WAS NOT CAUGHT.I WAS TEACHING KIDS USING THESE GUNS AND FOR REMINGTON TO HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS UNFORGIVABLE ,THEY COULD HAVE HURT OR KILLED SOMEONE BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT.
REMINGTON DID THEN SEND ME TWO REPLACEMENT BARRELS FOR BOTH 1187'S AND ALSO TOLD ME WHEN INSTALLING THE NEW CHOKE TUBES TO CHECK FOR CLEARANCE IN THE BARREL. I HAD TO TAKE A PAPER CLIP AND RUN IT INSIDE THE BARREL ,IF I HIT A LIP THEN THE TUBE WAS SMALLER THAN THE BARREL, IF IT DID NOT HAVE THAT LIP THEN THE TUBE WAS TO BIG AND IT COULD CAUSE AN OBSTRUCTION IN THE BARREL AND AN EXPLOSION AS WELL AS INJURY OR DEATH.
THIS IS REALLY BAD BUSINESS TO ALLOW A TICKING TIME BOMB OUT THERE THAT CAN KILL A SHOOTER WHO DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO CHECK THE FIT BETWEEN BETWEEN THE TUBE AND THE BARREL. REMINGTON SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF ITSELF FOR ALLOWING THIS TO HAPPEN, AND NOT NOTIFYING PEOPLE .
ALL OWNERS OF 1187s SHOULD CHECK THEIR GUNS , DON'T TRUST REMINGTON TO CONTACT YOU BECAUSE THEY WON'T. I GUESS ITS CHEAPER TO KILL OR INJUOR SPMEONE THAT TO SEND OUT NEW CHOKE TUBES.
STAY AWAY FROM 1187s , made in the 90s, or you may be sorry and seriously injured or killed
