Spud Gun improvements.

This stuff can really get serious! the spud gun that i previousy talked about is slowly turning into a bazooka! a sizer was made to cut the potato's to a perfect two inches in diameter(this ways about 2200 grains) so when it is inserted into the barrel there is a very snug fit. this will help in preventing a gas leak from the chamber. a pressure reader was also conected to the chamber to record the PSI thus letting you change the amount of propelent to get the most powerful shot(take into consideration that the gas/air mix has to be just right to get a powerful shot. if there is to much propelent and not enough air it will not ignite or it is likely to be less powerful). Also, plans of a shotgun version are being thought of.So far what i have heard is that the wadd will be made of moist newspaper and shot will be substituded for rice.

Checking the specific gravity on each load ?
The total solids of the Idaho are much higher than the California making it a lighter projectile !!
dipit,dipit,dipit!
Here's a pic of the spudgun complete with air pressure meter. We use that to find the best load.
We use rightguard because it has all the propellents and it don't smell too bad when burnt.
The sizer is the white thing just above the gun.
We try'd pushing spuds into the barrel but many of them broke and did not seal the barrel enough. So, we made the sizer.
So far the gun only generates about 19psi. That surprises me because a punctured tennis ball will go around 2 or 300 yards straight up.
We use Pam as our bullet lube. One squirt in the barrel every 5 or so shots.
Anyway, I'm already looking at doing this with straight pneumatics. Maybe start at 50lbs and go up to where the sch40 pvc can handle it.
Troy, you really cleaned up your spelling, grammar and stuff. Good job.
Sorry you can't make it tomorrow to Joe's [:(]

When I was a child, I thought as a child. But now that I am grown, I just wish I could act like a child and get away with it.
ALLWAYS use spuds bigger than the barrel. I personally cut the bottom of the spud square before inserting it.
I've put 5" deep dents in a pickup body @ 100'.
ALLWAYS use sch. 80 PVC(the white stuff). I've seen ABS ones blow up!
For shotgunning I use a 1/2" section of spud for a wad topped by a handful of gravel(or what have you) wrapped in tinfoil. Prints pretty good.

we made the sizer so that the spud was a little bit bigger than the barrel itself so that we could get a snug fit. we took a file and made the barrel bigger at the end so the spud would squeeze into the barrel tightly. we did almost what you would do to bell an empty piece of brass. The only difference is we seat a spud, not a piece of lead.
