Computer won't fire up even in safe mode. Dell, Trend, Embarq and Best Buy all said is has hit hard. I am very pissed at Trend for letting it through and not giving me any help after. I will be looking for another virus protection service. Eighty bucks for nothing I don't like. I really would like to protect this old gal. It's damn near as old as me!!

I just removed it. I don't think the problem is youtube but a hacker who can install a virus on a link or page.

Are you sure it was form the youtube video? My norton did not even register any attacks.

    Is this it?
HomeLand security/FBI Moneypak virus, no safe mode
    http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=128018

MalwareBytes is a good free tool. I've trusted it for years. You may want to try downloading it, perhaps from another, safe PC, onto a USB flash drive. Then run it from there on the infected computer.

Yep thats the one. About half way through my whole screen lit up like a Christmas tree with all kinds of warnings from home land security about what they would do if I didn't send them three hundred bucks! They gonna throw my po * in jail and charge me another ten thousand dollars!!

There is a class of attack called a "Ransom". The virus locks you out of Safe Mode, among other nasty things. Puts up a screen telling you to pay up or not have access again. Sometimes they have a countdown to causing more damage.

I got hit by that one, also.

Started in safe mode and restored back to two days before. No problems since.

This one had a count down and did more damage. It's not Wacos fault or you tubes. Dell said when it sees an opening somewhere it will slip through. I guess theres nothing you can do about it. I will have to buy a new computer because the ruined one is getting old. I worked with that thing half the day yesterday and today and every thing I did made it worse. I have thousands of pictures on it but have ninety nine percent backed up. This computer won't take numbers. When I hit a number the cursor jumps to the top?

Some of you don't get it. The computer WON"T FIRE UP EXCEPT TO A BLUE SCREEN TELLING ME TO SHUT IT OFF AND GO TO SAFE MODE! However when I shut down and fire it up it goes straight back to that same screen.

Ahhh that SOB! I got hit with the same thing but it was an FBI lock. The lap top was on it's last legs so I closed it up and was about to buy this mac anyway.

Be nice to be able to auto send a virus back to the originators that send this crap out telling them their activities are fully documented and they have so much time to send a payment of their own before the FBI is alerted :)

Well if buying a new computer is what you want to do anyway cleaning up your current one is kind of besides the point. It is possible though. You have to do things like check out the forums at MalwareBytes, try their removal tools or other advice. I've been through such and that approach has always worked for me.

After those bad experiences I upgraded from more than just an anti-virus package. I also run anti-malware, which is "different" enough in some way I do not not comprehend that anti-virus programs generally do not do much about malware.

Right now I am running Kaspersky Internet Security, MalwareBytes and NoScript.

That last one is important. NoScript stops Java scripts from running on the websites you visit. It is an add-on to Mozilla FireFox.
    http://noscript.net/

Once you install NoScript it takes a little getting used to. You have to authorize scripts to run one level at a time, or deny them. I find it pretty quick and easy after a brief exposure to it.

NoScript has stopped all sorts of banners, popups, hijacking attempts.

That won't hekp, the virus will still be there.

    Rosie,
If you want message me with your address. I'll send you a (no charge) copy for downloading AVG SECURITY for free with free updates. I have been using it for a while and it catches everything. It's to big to email, has to be put on a CD. But I am not sure how you can get it to work if you can't get it started.

You will need the Windows installation disc.

You have to open the BIOS settings, which is before Windows loads. This is before the operating system begins loading, so it it is before the virus or malware is loaded into memory. Here's a page on how to do that:
    http://www.pcworld.com/article/241032/how_to_enter_your_pcs_bios.html

Once you are in the BIOS settings look for the boot up options. You want to set your computer to boot from a CD first, hard drive second. That means the BIOS will automatically check the CD/DVD drive for a bootable disc before trying to access the hard drive.

Put the Windows Installation disc in the machine, then follow the instructions on the MalwareBytes link in my earlier post.

I can't say it will certainly work, but it claims to be specific to your problem so it's worth a try.

Appears legit. Still need to access your BIOS, in this case to select USB as the first boot-up option.

I'll give it a try Chris. I have all the cd's that came with the computer but never thought about trying to boot from cd. I did so many things but I seem to remember the BIOS quit working also. Righr now I'm pissed and that is no time to be working on anything.[:)]

I got nailed by it too and not too happy about it.

I knew it was a fake security block after it locked me up and demanded $300 be sent to free my system up.

I'm using a password locked user acct on my 'puter at the moment 'til I can figure out how to loose this bugger.

Currently running Windows and MS Essentials security programs.
Used to pay for Norton but dumped it.

Figured going minimal under the radar would keep the snoopers away.
